About the Role

Queensway Hospital, part of the specialist Ellern Mede Group, is seeking compassionate and resilient Healthcare Assistants to join our growing multidisciplinary team. We provide high-quality, trauma-informed inpatient care for adults with complex and acute mental health needs who often cannot be effectively supported in traditional hospital environments.

As a Healthcare Assistant, you will work as part of a skilled, person-centred clinical team supporting individuals with significant emotional, behavioural, and relational needs. This role is both challenging and highly rewarding, offering the opportunity to make a tangible difference in the recovery and stability of our patients.

You will receive full induction and ongoing training in autism-informed care, trauma-informed approaches, Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression, and other essential skills to ensure you can deliver safe, effective, and compassionate care.


Job Opportunity

Main Duties of the Job

  • Provide high-quality, compassionate care and assistance with daily living activities (e.g., personal care, nutrition, hygiene).
  • Provide enhanced support to patients as directed by the Nurse in Charge
  • Build therapeutic, trust-based relationships with patients who have experienced significant trauma.
  • Work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse to implement and review patient care plans.
  • Use de-escalation and safe physical intervention techniques where required to maintain safety.
  • Escort and support patients during appointments, community access, and therapeutic activities.
  • Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation (e.g., vital signs, food and fluid charts, incident reports).
  • Promote infection control, safeguarding, and health and safety standards across the ward.
  • Contribute to structured therapeutic programmes and group activities.
  • Always uphold professional boundaries, patient dignity, and confidentiality.

Our wards deliver bespoke complex care packages for adults with enduring and comorbid conditions such as personality disorder, disordered eating , autism spectrum disorder, and trauma-related presentations. Our care model combines relational security, trauma-informed practice, and psychological formulation to achieve meaningful progress toward recovery and community reintegration.

We work closely with NHS commissioners, local authorities, and multi-disciplinary professionals to provide individually tailored, safe, and structured therapeutic environments.


Essential Skills

Essential

  • GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Math
  • Experience working in a healthcare, social care, or education settin
  • Basic understanding of mental health and safeguarding principle
  • Compassionate, patient, and resilient; able to maintain professional boundaries
  • Willingness to work shifts (days, nights, weekends) as part of a 24-hour services


Desirable

  • Studying toward or holding a qualification in Health and Social care
  • Experience supporting individuals with mental health needs, learning disabilities, or autism
  • Awareness of trauma-informed or autism-informed practice
  • Reflective and committed to professional development
  • Full UK driving licence



About Company

Queensway Hospital is a Mental Health service in association with the Ellern Mede Group

We provide individualised, person-centred care for our patients. Our multidisciplinary team (MDT) collaborates with patients, families, and professionals to enhance mental health and wellbeing. Care is delivered across the spacious Elizabeth Ward, with Elizabeth Lower downstairs and Elizabeth Upper upstairs.

Our goal is to support recovery and reintegration into the community by offering choice and developing trust with all our partners. We work closely with community teams to reduce hospital stays and help prevent future admissions - this is central to our mission.
