Job description
CORE PURPOSE We require an inspiring, enthusiastic Science Teacher to deliver outstanding scientific instruction across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, with opportunities to contribute to post-16 advanced scientific pathways. Operating within an ambitious, oversubscribed specialist STEM provider, the successful candidate will facilitate a knowledge-rich, practical-led curriculum designed to foster deep conceptual understanding, experimental literacy, and critical scientific thinking, preparing all pupils thoroughly for exceptional outcomes in terminal GCSE Combined Science and Separate Sciences public examinations. THE SCHOOL Our specialist academy is dedicated to cultivating an ambitious and highly academic learning environment where every student is challenged to achieve their full potential. As a forward-thinking STEM school with a strong local reputation, we blend rigorous academic standards with a supportive, inclusive atmosphere. The science department is characterized by a culture of intellectual curiosity, practical exploration, and collaborative planning, where teachers share a passion for scientific discovery and evidence-based pedagogy. We operate a highly supportive, centralized behaviour system that minimizes classroom disruption, allowing teachers to focus entirely on delivering high-impact, deeply engaging scientific instruction. KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS High-Impact & Practical-Led Instruction: Plan, resource, and deliver high-quality biology, chemistry, and physics lessons across all attainment pathways, systematically embedding the "working scientifically" framework alongside core theoretical knowledge. Experimental Scaffolding & Lab Safety: Maintain rigorous laboratory safety standards while executing engaging practical experiments, utilizing structured teacher demonstrations and explicit scaffolding to build pupils' investigative and data-analysis skills. GCSE Performance Optimization: Guide Year 11 examination cohorts meticulously through the demands of linear terminal papers for both GCSE Combined Science and Separate Sciences, utilizing diagnostic data tracking to eliminate persistent misconceptions and maximize high-grade retention. Closing Science Attainment Gaps: Identify and target learning barriers within mixed-ability cohorts, deploying explicit command-word instruction, visual models, and structured retrieval practice to ensure accessibility for SEND pupils while stretching high-prior-attaining scientists. Inclusive Pastoral Support: Fulfil full form tutor responsibilities within an established year group structure, supporting pupil wellbeing, managing daily registration routines, and maintaining proactive, positive communication with families. PROFILE REQUIREMENTS Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or a recognised equivalent teaching credential, paired with a strong honours degree in a scientific discipline (such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Biomedical Sciences). Pedagogical Capability: A proven track record or clear capacity to deliver strong progress metrics and exceptional performance outcomes in terminal public GCSE specifications through highly structured, systematic, and explicit science pedagogy. Inquisitive & Supportive Ethos: An unwavering commitment to comprehensive education, possessing the exceptional communication skills, enthusiasm, and logical clarity required to challenge high-attaining pupils while building scientific confidence in pupils of all backgrounds. REGIONAL CONTEXT A Hub of Aviation, Automotive Innovation, and Tech Enterprise: Based in the large, vibrant town of Luton, the school capitalizes on a dynamic regional identity built on a rich heritage of manufacturing and engineering excellence. Positioned near Luton’s thriving engineering sectors, its global aviation hub at London Luton Airport, and growing digital tech corridors, the town provides an exceptional, real-world backdrop for applied physics, aerospace mechanics, and environmental biochemistry, connecting classroom science directly to active technical innovation and diverse STEM career pathways across Bedfordshire and the South East. Connectivity & Infrastructure: The campus benefits from superb regional transport links, offering straightforward road commuting via the M1 motorway (Junctions 10 and 11), the A5, and the A6 corridors. Public transit networks operate seamlessly with comprehensive local bus systems and the Luton Luton Airport Express, while Luton station and Luton Airport Parkway provide frequent, high-speed Thameslink and East Midlands Railway services that connect the school effortlessly to Bedford, St Albans, Milton Keynes, and central London in under thirty minutes.
