OverviewWorking within Campaign Campaign is a leading global media brand serving the advertising, marketing, media and creative industries. Through its trusted journalism, analysis, events and awards, Campaign provides professionals with the news, insight and inspiration they need to make informed business decisions, recognise industry excellence and stay connected with the latest trends shaping the global communications sector.The Role The Deputy News Editor plays a key role in delivering Campaign's daily news agenda, supporting the News Editor to produce timely, accurate and engaging journalism across digital and print platforms.The role is responsible for identifying and breaking exclusive stories, producing high-quality news, features and analysis, and ensuring editorial content meets the highest standards of accuracy, relevance and journalistic integrity.Working collaboratively across the editorial team, the Deputy News Editor helps plan and coordinate news coverage, supports audience engagement through data-informed content decisions, and represents the Campaign brand through industry events and external engagement.ResponsibilitiesKey ResponsibilitiesSupport the News Editor in planning, commissioning, editing and delivering high-quality news content across digital and print platforms.Identify, investigate and break exclusive news stories, producing insightful features and analysis that engage Campaign's specialist audience.Build and maintain strong relationships with industry contacts to support news gathering and identify emerging trendsManage the day-to-day news agenda, ensuring accurate, timely and relevant coverage while maintaining high editorial standards.Deputise for the News Editor when required, leading editorial planning meetings, managing workflow and overseeing news output.Commission and edit content from internal and freelance contributors, ensuring all copy is accurate, balanced, legally compliant and aligned with Campaign's editorial standards.Monitor audience engagement and content performance, using data and analytics to inform editorial planning and improve audience reach Collaborate with production, design and audience engagement teams to optimise the presentation and performance of editorial content across multiple platforms.Represent Campaign at industry events, conferences and external engagements, producing live coverage, building relationships and enhancing the brand's reputation.Monitor industry developments, competitor activity and digital channels to identify news opportunitiesContribute to the continuous development of editorial processes, content formats and digital storytelling to support audience growth and engagement.Ensure all editorial activity complies with legal, ethical and professional journalistic standards.Skills / Experience / Knowledge / Minimum CriteriaKey Relationships Works closely with the News Editor, Editor, editorial colleagues, production, audience engagement, commercial and events teams to deliver high-quality journalism and support business objectives. Builds and maintains strong relationships with industry leaders, agencies, brands, media owners and other key stakeholders across the advertising, marketing and media sectors.Knowledge, Skills & Experience Knowledge Strong understanding of news journalism, editorial processes and digital publishing.Knowledge of media law, editorial standards and journalistic ethics.Understanding of the advertising, marketing, media and creative industries.Awareness of audience engagement principles and digital content performance.Skills Excellent news judgement with the ability to identify and prioritise stories.Outstanding writing, editing and proofreading skills with exceptional attention to detail.Strong interviewing, research and investigative journalism skills.Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality content to tight deadlines.Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret audience data and identify content opportunities.Confident public speaking and presentation skills, with the ability to represent the Campaign brand externally.Proficiency in digital publishing platforms, content management systems and social media.Experience Relevant experience in a news reporting or editing role within a digital, newspaper, magazine or B2B publishing environment.Experience commissioning, editing and publishing high-quality editorial content.Experience producing exclusive news stories, features and business analysis.Experience managing competing editorial priorities in a fast-paced newsroom.Experience building and maintaining professional industry networks.Experience using audience insights and analytics to inform editorial decision-making.Experience representing a media brand at industry events or public engagements.About You Editorially strong with excellent news judgement and a passion for business journalism.Curious, proactive and driven to uncover exclusive stories.A confident communicator who builds strong relationships with industry contacts and colleagues.Collaborative and supportive, working effectively across editorial and cross-functional teams.Adaptable and comfortable working in a fast-paced digital news environment.Detail-oriented, accountable and committed to the highest standards of journalistic integrity.Professional, resilient and able to make sound editorial decisions under pressure.What success looks like Success in this role will typically be measured by:Quality, accuracy and timeliness of editorial content.Delivery of exclusive stories and impactful journalism.Audience engagement and content performance.Contribution to editorial planning and daily news output.Collaboration across teams and support for wider business objectives.Strength of industry relationships and external representation of the Campaign brand.Compliance with editorial, legal and ethical standards.Additional Information Why work with us at Haymarket?
