Teaching Assistant – Cognition & Learning (Full Time)

Thrive Education is delighted to be recruiting for a dedicated and adaptable Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and ambitious primary school in Cheltenham on a full-time, long-term basis.

This is a unique opportunity to work across the entire primary age range, supporting pupils from Reception through to Year 6 with cognition and learning needs. Rather than being attached to one class, you'll work flexibly throughout the school, delivering targeted interventions and supporting small groups of children from different classes and year groups under the direction of the SENCo and in collaboration with class teachers.

The school is a vibrant and inclusive community where children are encouraged to be polite, resilient, open-minded, understanding and determined. Staff are committed to creating a caring, knowledge-rich learning environment where every child is supported to flourish both academically and personally. The successful candidate will play a key role in helping pupils achieve their full potential within this nurturing setting.

The Role

As the Cognition & Learning Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Deliver planned interventions and targeted learning support across Reception to Year 6.
  • Work with small groups of pupils, often from multiple classes or year groups.
  • Support children in developing confidence and progress across core curriculum subjects.
  • Adapt learning activities to meet individual needs.
  • Work closely with the SENCo and teaching staff to implement effective support strategies.
  • Foster a positive, encouraging and inclusive learning environment.

We're Looking For Someone Who:

  • Has previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant within a primary school.
  • Has a good understanding of supporting children with additional learning needs.
  • Has strong knowledge of phonics (essential).
  • Has experience or awareness of the ELS (Extended Literacy Support) programme (desirable).
  • Is confident working independently with groups of pupils across different year groups.
  • Is organised, flexible and able to build positive relationships with children and staff alike.
  • Holds an enhanced DBS on the Update Service or is willing to obtain one.

Why Thrive Education?

At Thrive Education, we believe in placing professionals, not just plugging gaps. We work in partnership with schools that genuinely value their staff and are committed to providing ongoing support throughout your placement. As an independent education recruitment specialist, we pride ourselves on building long-term relationships with both schools and education professionals.

What Thrive Education Offers

  • Competitive daily pay.
  • Dedicated consultant support throughout your placement.
  • Weekly PAYE payroll.
  • Opportunities for long-term and permanent positions.
  • A straightforward, honest recruitment process.
  • Free safeguarding and CPD opportunities.

If you're passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning and would enjoy a varied role supporting pupils across a whole primary school, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply today with Thrive Education and take the next step in your education career.
