Job Description

Flexible, purpose-driven procurement roles where you can take ownership of end-to-end sourcing while supporting an organisation that helps save lives across Scotland.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service
Procurement Officer (x3)

Location: Scotland-wide, primarily home-based with full flexibility, plus access to Cambuslang office and occasional travel for team meetings

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is the national fire and rescue organisation for Scotland, serving communities across the country every day. Alongside frontline emergency response, it plays a key role in prevention, protection and wider public safety, helping to create safer communities.

They are now looking to appoint three Procurement Officers into their Category Teams, offering the opportunity to work on a genuinely varied portfolio of spend within a highly visible, purpose-led organisation.

Although aligned to their Cambuslang headquarters, these roles offer full flexibility to work from home, enabling applications from candidates based anywhere in Scotland, with occasional travel required for team meetings. Flexible working patterns are actively supported, including condensed working weeks and adaptable start and finish times.

This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of procurement activity across your category area, working closely with stakeholders to deliver compliant, value-driven outcomes in line with public sector best practice.

The Role
  • Lead end to end procurement activity across assigned categories, from strategy development through to contract award
  • Support the development and delivery of category strategies aligned to organisational priorities
  • Engage with internal stakeholders to understand requirements and shape effective procurement solutions
  • Deliver compliant tendering processes in line with public sector regulations and governance standards
  • Contribute to contract implementation and ongoing supplier management activity
  • Work as part of a collaborative Category Team, supporting wider procurement initiatives where required

The work is diverse and often high impact, spanning areas such as digital and IT, operational equipment, protective clothing and specialist frontline assets.

Experience/Qualifications
  • CIPS Level 4 Diploma in Procurement and Supply (or working towards)
  • Experience delivering end to end procurement activity, including tendering and contract award
  • Experience working within a regulated or process-driven environment
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to influence and challenge appropriately
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver to deadlines
  • Working knowledge of public sector procurement legislation and best practice

Experience within public sector environments would be highly advantageous.

Salary/Benefits
  • Salary: £41,520 to £43,598
  • Annual leave: 28 days, rising to 34 days after 5 years, plus 6 public holidays
  • Pension: Local Government Pension Scheme, with approx. 6.5% employee and generous employer contributions
  • Flexible working: hybrid/home working across Scotland, flexible hours and condensed working options
  • Employee benefits: access to VivUp discounts, savings and salary sacrifice schemes
  • Career development: clear progression pathways, training and development opportunities, support for further professional qualification (CIPS)
  • Wellbeing support: health and wellbeing services and family-friendly policies

This is an excellent opportunity for procurement professionals looking for variety, autonomy and clear purpose in their work, within an organisation where the outcomes of procurement activity directly support frontline services and communities across Scotland.

Recruitment Process

Closing date for applications is Friday 10th July, with interviews to be held towards the end of July. These will consist of a values and competency-based interview along with a practical, scenario-based assessment.

To stand out, review the role requirements and come prepared with clear examples of how you meet these - especially how you demonstrate the SFRS values of Safety, Teamwork, Respect and Innovation in your work.
