Bank Sterile Services Assistant (SSD) Theatre Department Spire Norwich Hospital Bank Contract Flexible Shifts

Looking for a healthcare role where you can make a vital difference behind the scenes

Spire Norwich Hospital is looking for a dedicated and reliable Sterile Services Assistant to join our Theatre Department on a Bank basis.

Working as part of our Sterile Services Department (SSD) youll play a crucial role in supporting safe and effective patient care by ensuring surgical instruments and equipment are cleaned sterilised tracked and prepared for use. Every operation relies on the work carried out by our SSD team making this an essential role within the hospital.

Whether youre already experienced in decontamination services or looking to develop a career within healthcare we would love to hear from you. Full training can be provided for candidates with the right attitude enthusiasm and willingness to learn.

At Spire Norwich Hospital youll become part of a supportive and friendly team committed to delivering exceptional patient care. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience within a hospital theatre environment while enjoying the flexibility of bank working.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Clean disinfect sterilise and prepare surgical instruments and equipment in line with national standards and hospital procedures.
  • Check instrument sets before and after the decontamination process to ensure completeness and quality.
  • Pack instruments consumables and linen ready for sterilisation.
  • Maintain accurate instrument tracking records and documentation.
  • Monitor equipment performance and report any faults or repair requirements.
  • Operate decontamination and sterilisation equipment safely and effectively.
  • Support compliance with infection prevention and control standards.
  • Assist with stock management and department organisation.
  • Undertake manual handling tasks and physical duties including lifting and moving equipment where required.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures accurately.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative when required.
  • Understanding of the importance of cleanliness safety and quality standards.
  • Physically capable of undertaking manual handling and lifting duties
Desirable
  • Certificate in Decontamination or NVQ Level 3 in Decontamination.
  • Previous experience within a Sterile Services Theatre Healthcare or Clinical Support environment.
  • Knowledge of:
    • Infection prevention and control
    • Aseptic techniques
    • Sterile packing procedures
    • Surgical instruments and equipment
    • SSD machinery and processes
    • Relevant quality and ISO standards
