Job description
Looking to join a dynamic and Inclusive team as an Approved Mental health Professional (AMHP)? We are seeking passionate and committed Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHPs) to join our vibrant and progressive Daytime AMHP Service within Devon, part of the Devon Partnership NHS Trust. These exciting opportunities are available across multiple areas of Devon and offer the chance to work within a nationally recognised service that values collaboration, innovation, and inclusivity. Why this role? * Open to registered social workers, occupational therapists, mental health nurses, or chartered psychologists who are currently approved (or eligible for approval) to practise as an AMHP. * While AMHPs are based across various locations in the county, there is an expectation to work flexibly, and travel as needed to support service delivery across all areas. * We offer opportunities for hybrid working, supporting a balance of home‑based and office‑based practice, in line with service needs and professional development. * AMHPs receive regular supervision, peer support, and annual appraisal. * Working in a supportive and inclusive environment where your contribution is valued and your development is prioritised. Why this service? The Devon AMHP Service is proud to be acknowledged as an example of best practice at a national level, having contributed to the development of the AMHP National Service Standards and other key sector initiatives. Our team is committed to continuous improvement and places a strong emphasis on co‑production, including how best to capture and utilise the voices of those that have experience of being assessed under the Mental Health Act and to further improve practice for the benefit of those who come into contact with our service. We are also deeply committed to addressing racial disparities in mental health care. Our service is dedicated to implementing the recommendations of Devon County Council’s Race Equality Audit and actively working to deliver more equitable and culturally informed support and practice. Our service is committed to your growth. We offer a comprehensive post‑qualifying training programme and encourage innovative approaches to sharing AMHP expertise across wider teams. About the role The role of daytime AMHPs within Devon County Council has evolved significantly in response to the changing landscape of mental health services. Our AMHPs collaborate proactively with both internal and external partners — including crisis teams, inpatient wards, community mental health teams, police, CAMHS, and other agencies — to ensure a timely and appropriate legal response for individuals at risk of detention or restriction under the Mental Health Act. In addition to frontline duties, AMHPs hold a small caseload of social supervision patients, with the aim of supporting those individuals and their treating teams with the management of those orders. About You You are a registered professional with a recognised AMHP qualification (or eligible for re‑approval) and a deep commitment to delivering compassionate, rights‑based care. You bring: * Strong understanding of the European Convention on Human Rights and mental health legislation * A values‑led, recovery‑focused approach to practice * A flexible, creative, and proactive attitude to multidisciplinary collaboration * A genuine passion for improving services and outcomes for those experiencing mental health crises If you’re ready to make a meaningful difference and thrive in a team that is inclusive, forward‑thinking and committed to excellence, we would love to hear from you. What Devon County Council has to offer * We are committed to your continuous professional development, doing all we can to help you to get the most from your career. You will receive excellent support and supervision, with regular opportunities to discuss and reflect on your practice, both with your line manager and peers. * We offer 26 days annual leave, plus Bank Holidays, rising incrementally to 31 days after 5 years’ service. * Recognition of NHS continuous service for contractual annual leave purposes, sick pay entitlement and Maternity/Adoption & Paternity pay entitlement (within DCC Terms & Conditions) * Flexible working opportunities are available, these include part‑time hours, flexitime, compressed working hours and homeworking (this is subject to the needs of the role – please discuss at further at interview) * Offer an opportunity to enter a generous Local Government Pension Scheme. * As a place to live and work, Devon is hard to beat with top‑performing schools, universities, vibrant cities, pretty villages and some of the most scenic coast and countryside in the UK. Living and working in Devon as a AMHP has never been more attractive. * If you are currently living, working or studying in the UK and are looking to relocate to Devon, subject to qualifying conditions and in exceptional circumstances, relocation support of up to £10,000, may be available. Visa sponsorship may also be offered as part of the relocation support package, terms and conditions apply. Please note: At this time, we are unable to consider overseas applications.
