Job description

Water isn't just a resource; it's the lifeblood of our communities. As we navigate the ambitious demands of the AMP8 regulatory cycle, the choices we make today will define the environmental resilience of Wales and the South West for generations.

At Stantec, our water sector teams across Cardiff, Bristol, Taunton, and Exeter are growing rapidly. We are moving beyond standard engineering to deliver narrative-led, sustainable solutions for the region's major utility frameworks. To achieve this, we are looking for passionate Mechanical Engineers to join our collaborative, award-winning team. If you want to design with community in mind and tackle the realities of climate change and water scarcity head-on, your next chapter starts here.

About the Role

This is an invitation to bring your expertise to a team that influences the entire project lifecycle. Whether you are based in Wales or across the South West, you won't just be sitting behind a desk; you will be an integral part of transforming ideas into reality.

Your work will span from early-stage feasibility and innovative optioneering right through to detailed design, collaborative 3D modeling, and on-site construction support. You will act as a pivotal technical bridge-collaborating closely with Project Managers, clients, supply chain partners, and multidisciplinary design teams to deliver high-quality, resilient water and wastewater infrastructure.

Your Impact

At Stantec, we don't just fill roles; we empower people to make a tangible difference. In this role, your impact will be felt through:

  • Engineering Excellence: Designing and sizing complex pumping and aeration systems, producing robust technical specifications, and shaping Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and General Arrangement drawings.
  • Collaborative Innovation: Bringing designs to life by actively contributing to technical workshops, collaborative planning sessions, and critical safety reviews (including HAZOPs and ALMs).
  • Mentorship & Growth: For our more senior engineers, your impact will multiply as you provide technical leadership, guiding and inspiring the next generation of junior engineers within the team.
  • Community Resilience: Assessing existing site infrastructure to unlock capacity, improve water quality, and help our clients meet their environmental commitments.

About You

You are a problem-solver who values collaboration and technical integrity. While we are keen to talk to engineers at various stages of their career journey, ideally, you will bring:

  • A strong background in mechanical design, with a proven track record within the UK water or wastewater industry.
  • Professional registration (Chartered Engineer status is highly desirable, or a clear pathway toward achieving it).
  • An understanding of water treatment processes and the ability to evaluate asset health on-site.
  • Excellent communication skills-you are comfortable translating complex technical concepts to clients, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • A mindset aligned with our core values: we put people first, we do what is right, we are better together, and we are driven to achieve.

WHY JOIN US

  • We put people first: We're proud of our friendly, inclusive and collaborative environment where everyone feels valued and driven to succeed.
  • We are driven to achieve: Named in the top 50 companies to work by Glassdoor 2025. Recognised by Corporate Knights as one of the world's top 10 most sustainable companies 2025. Named 'Best Place to Work' and 'International Consulting Firm of the Year' at the NCE Awards 2024.
  • We do what is right: Industry leading training and development as well as paid for professional subscriptions. A professional progression plan, supporting you to become chartered with ICE.
  • We are better together: A supportive and collaborative team environment and Early Careers peer group and wider ERG network (see more on our ERGs here: Stantec Employee Resource Groups)
  • Growth: We're on an exciting growth journey across the UK - we want you to be part of it!
  • Great Benefits: Competitive salary, bonus schemes, enhanced pension plan, annual leave with the option to buy/sell additional days, private medical insurance, group income protection & life assurance included as standard as well as discounted gym membership and lots more.
  • Hybrid / Flexible working: Enjoy a healthy work-life balance with our hybrid approach to flexible working.
