Following the launch of our new Professoriate Promotions Policy, where we have reimagined the roles of our Professors and Associate Professors, we are pleased to announce the first round of substantive opportunities are now open.
There are two Professor opportunities (Grade 10):
- Education
- Psychology or History
And three Associate Professor opportunities (Grade 9):
- Communication, Cultural and Media Studies, Library and Information Management
- Related to a subject in the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing
- Related to a subject in the Faculty of Business and Law
Academic colleagues at Grade 9 or above are also invited to consider an application for a job title only change to Professor as part of this process.
THE ROLE IN SUMMARY
Both Associate Professor and Professor roles are senior academic leadership roles within the University, with the Professor role being the most senior at the University.
Associate Professors are expected to demonstrate excellence in their field who make a sustained, high-level contribution to the University’s academic mission. They are visible contributors to their discipline, department and institution.
Professors are recognised as colleagues who are authoritative and influential within their field. As institutional leaders in their area of outstanding contribution, they must demonstrate influence at scale and sustained breadth of high-level academic activity that advances the University’s mission, reputation and strategic objectives.
TERMS OF THE ROLE
For the successful candidate of one of the five opportunities listed above, this will be a permanent change to terms and conditions, including the relevant job description, commensurate to the relevant opportunity.
For successful candidates who apply for the job title change only, there will be no other changes to their terms and conditions or job description.

Your application will be shortlisted by the panel early September. Those successfully shortlisted will be invited to a panel late September, date to be confirmed.
