Job description
CORE PURPOSE We require an engaging, highly articulate French Teacher to deliver outstanding Modern Foreign Language (MFL) instruction across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. Operating within a rapidly growing Free School framework, the successful candidate will facilitate a structured, communication-led curriculum designed to foster deep grammatical fluency, accurate pronunciation, cultural literacy, and confident spontaneous speaking skills, preparing all pupils thoroughly for terminal GCSE French public examinations. THE SCHOOL Our Free School operates as a pioneering, co-educational secondary provider established to deliver a bespoke, high-quality local education with an emphasis on academic excellence, personal ambition, and global citizenship. The campus boasts newly built, technology-rich language classrooms, collaborative multimedia learning suites, and a forward-thinking communications faculty. Our behaviour management framework relies on an established culture of high expectations, consistent routines, and mutual respect, maintaining a calm, highly purposeful environment where pupils can confidently practice spoken language and engage in independent cultural research. KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS Communication-Led MFL Instruction: Plan, resource, and deliver high-quality French lessons across all attainment pathways, embedding consistent retrieval practice to cement phonics, extensive vocabulary structures, and complex tenses. Closing Lingual Attainment Gaps: Identify and target language learning barriers, deploying structured scaffolding, interactive digital listening resources, and targeted literacy interventions to accelerate the progress of all pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEND). Rigorous Examination Preparation: Guide Year 11 cohorts systematically through the demands of terminal Foundation and Higher tier GCSE French papers, teaching explicit strategies for the listening, reading, writing, and formal speaking components. Data-Driven Progress Monitoring: Meticulously analyse formative assessment data, mock speaking recordings, and writing scripts to pinpoint specific grammatical weaknesses, deploying immediate, targeted conjugation and translation workshops. Community Pastoral Care: Fulfil full form tutor responsibilities within an established year group structure, managing daily registration, delivering global citizenship units, and maintaining proactive, supportive communication with families. PROFILE REQUIREMENTS Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or a recognised equivalent teaching credential, paired with a strong honours degree in French Studies, Modern Foreign Languages, or a closely related linguistic discipline. Pedagogical Capability: A proven track record or clear capacity to deliver strong progress metrics in terminal public GCSE examinations across both Foundation and Higher tenses through structured, high-impact language pedagogy. Flexible & Creative Mindset: An unwavering commitment to the ethos of a developing Free School, demonstrating the patience, clarity, and adaptability required to build a close-knit learning community and inspire linguistic confidence in pupils of all abilities. REGIONAL CONTEXT East Midlands Logistics & E-Commerce Core: Based in the historic market town of Northampton, the school capitalizes on a unique regional identity positioned within one of the UK’s primary logistics, distribution, and automotive engineering corridors. The town’s expanding international business parks, enterprise zones, and historical global trade links provide rich, real-world applications for modern languages, connecting classroom French directly to international supply chains, corporate logistics, and pan-European commercial enterprises. Connectivity & Infrastructure: The campus benefits from excellent East Midlands transport infrastructure, offering straightforward road commuting via the M1 motorway (Junctions 15 and 15a), the A45, and the A43 expressways. Public transit networks run seamlessly across Northamptonshire, utilizing comprehensive local bus networks and Northampton railway station, which provides regular, high-frequency West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway services linking the school directly to Milton Keynes, Rugby, Birmingham, and London Euston.
