We are seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and committed English Teacher to join a highly successful and oversubscribed grammar school in Bristol. The successful candidate will teach English across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5, delivering engaging and challenging lessons that develop students’ understanding of literature, language, communication, and creative expression. The Role As an English Teacher, you will plan, deliver and assess high-quality lessons that challenge students and support excellent academic progress. You will use assessment effectively to identify areas for development, adapt teaching, and inspire students to achieve their potential. You will encourage students to think critically, analyse texts, develop their written expression, and explore a wide range of literary works. The role will also involve contributing to enrichment opportunities, reading initiatives, and the wider life of the school. Key Responsibilities • Plan, deliver and assess engaging English lessons across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 • Develop students’ understanding of literature, language, creative writing and communication skills • Use assessment effectively to monitor progress and inform future planning • Differentiate teaching to support and challenge learners of all abilities • Create a positive, ambitious and inclusive classroom environment • Encourage independent reading, creativity, resilience and academic confidence • Develop students’ analytical, critical thinking and written communication skills • Contribute to departmental planning, curriculum development and improvement initiatives • Support enrichment activities including reading programmes, competitions and wider school opportunities • Encourage students’ progression pathways including further education and careers The Ideal Candidate The successful applicant will: • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or be an Early Career Teacher completing training • Have experience teaching English at KS3 and KS4, with KS5 experience desirable • Be passionate about English and able to inspire high-achieving students • Have excellent subject knowledge and a commitment to academic excellence • Possess strong classroom management and communication skills • Be reflective, organised and committed to continuous professional development • Have a positive, collaborative approach to working with colleagues Early Career Teachers are encouraged to apply and will benefit from a supportive induction and mentoring programme.
