Job description

Position: English Teacher Location: Hertford Contract: Full-Time Start Date: September Key Stages: KS3–KS5 English Teaching Role in a Foundation School A successful Foundation School in Hertford is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspirational English Teacher to join its thriving English department from September. This is a full-time role within a supportive and ambitious school that values academic achievement, creativity, and a love of literature. English is a highly regarded subject within the school, with students encouraged to become confident readers, thoughtful analysts, and skilled communicators through an engaging and challenging curriculum. About the Role You will teach English Language and English Literature across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging lessons that foster a passion for reading, writing, and critical thinking. Students study a diverse range of texts, including Shakespeare, poetry, modern literature, and non-fiction, developing strong analytical, interpretative, and creative writing skills. You will prepare students for GCSE and A-Level examinations, supporting them in achieving excellent outcomes and progressing to higher education and a wide variety of future careers. Working as part of a collaborative and successful department, you will contribute to curriculum development, literacy initiatives, and enrichment activities that promote a culture of reading across the school. Key Responsibilities Teach English Language and English Literature across KS3, KS4, and KS5 Deliver engaging and academically challenging lessons Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level examinations Develop students’ analytical, interpretative, and writing skills Assess student work and provide detailed, constructive feedback Monitor progress and implement targeted intervention strategies Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development Support literacy programmes, reading initiatives, and enrichment activities The School Environment This Foundation School in Hertford provides a welcoming and aspirational learning environment where students are encouraged to achieve their full potential.
