Job Description

About the Role

The UK water sector is entering a period of unprecedented investment and transformation. As Egis accelerates the growth of its Water Business in the UK, we are building a high-performing Mechanical Engineering team to help shape this next chapter.

We are inviting applicants who want to play a meaningful role in delivering major water and wastewater programmes in the UK. Working within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment, you will contribute to technically robust, sustainable and innovative treatment solutions across nationally significant projects.

This is a rare opportunity to join at a key stage of our UK growth journey, helping to establish, shape and expand a Mechanical engineering capability built on Egis’ global infrastructure expertise and long-term commitment to the sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to mechanical design packages across feasibility, optioneering, concept, outline and detailed design for UK water/wastewater treatment projects.

• Prepare mechanical calculations, specifications, datasheets, schedules, technical notes, P&IDs, layouts, drawings and procurement documentation under senior guidance.

• Support equipment sizing and selection for assets such as pumps, pipework, tanks, valves, penstocks, screens, grit removal plant, odour control systems, lifting equipment and packaged plant.

• Attend site visits, asset surveys and data collection activities, including discussions with operators, suppliers and technology providers.

• Support multidisciplinary coordination with Process, EICA, civil/structural, architectural and construction teams.

• Contribute to CDM/safety-by-design reviews, design risk assessments, constructability reviews and commissioning/handover support.

• Use digital tools, spreadsheets, models and data analysis to improve design quality, efficiency and consistency.

• Work to agreed scope, budget and programme, escalating risks and issues early.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

• BEng/MEng or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering.

• Typically 4+ years’ relevant mechanical engineering design experience.

• Background must be from water, wastewater, biosolids/bioresources or oil & gas.

• Experience preparing mechanical design deliverables such as calculations, specifications, datasheets, schedules, reports, drawings or procurement documentation.

• Understanding of mechanical equipment, pumping systems, pipework, valves and associated treatment or process plant.

• Working knowledge of CDM/safety-by-design, design risk management and quality assurance processes.

• Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to integrated, buildable and maintainable solutions.

• Good digital capability, including Excel and relevant design, modelling or drawing tools.

• Ability to travel to operational works, construction sites and supplier facilities as required.

Desirable Skills / Knowledge

• Experience in municipal water treatment, wastewater treatment, sludge/bioresources, water reuse, pumping stations, package plant or process plant.

• Exposure to AMP8, WINEP, SROs, D&B, framework or alliance delivery environments.

• Experience with pump selection, headloss calculations, hydraulic analysis, P&IDs, WIMES-style datasheets, 3D/BIM coordination or digital design tools.

• Progress towards IEng or CEng with a relevant professional institution, such as IMechE.

Please note that you must have the right to work in the UK to be considered for this position.
