About the Role

The UK water sector is entering a period of unprecedented investment and transformation. As Egis accelerates the growth of its Water Business in the UK, we are building a high-performing Mechanical Engineering team to help shape this next chapter.

We are inviting applicants who want to play a meaningful role in delivering major water and wastewater programmes in the UK. Working within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment, you will contribute to technically robust, sustainable and innovative treatment solutions across nationally significant projects.

This is a rare opportunity to join at a key stage of our UK growth journey, helping to establish, shape and expand a Mechanical engineering capability built on Egis’ global infrastructure expertise and long-term commitment to the sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead defined mechanical design tasks or work packages across feasibility, optioneering, concept, outline and detailed design.
  • Prepare, check and coordinate mechanical deliverables including calculations, specifications, datasheets, schedules, P&IDs, layouts, design reports and procurement documentation.
  • Take ownership of assigned mechanical packages, managing technical quality, interfaces, scope, budget, programme and change.
  • Lead site surveys, data reviews and technical discussions with clients, operators, suppliers, contractors and technology providers.
  • Develop mechanical solutions for pumps, pipework, valves, tanks, lifting systems, screens, grit removal, odour control, packaged plant and associated treatment assets.
  • Coordinate interfaces with Process, EICA, civil/structural, architectural and construction teams, including MEP integration, access, lifting, maintainability and constructability.
  • Support CDM/safety-by-design reviews, HAZOP/SWIFT input, technical risk management, commissioning strategies and performance testing.
  • Review supplier/contractor submissions, respond to technical queries and support construction, commissioning and handover where required.
  • Mentor Engineers and Graduates and contribute to mechanical standards, templates and delivery improvements.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • BEng/MEng or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Chartered Engineer status, or significant CEng-level experience while actively progressing towards chartership.
  • Typically 6+ years’ relevant mechanical engineering design experience.
  • Background must be from water, wastewater, biosolids/bioresources or oil & gas.
  • Proven ability to deliver mechanical design packages within multidisciplinary projects.
  • Strong practical experience with mechanical equipment selection, pumping systems, pipework, valves, hydraulics, layouts and packaged plant.
  • Ability to prepare and check mechanical calculations, specifications, datasheets, schedules, reports, drawings and procurement documentation.
  • Working knowledge of UK water industry standards, CDM 2015, safety-by-design and relevant mechanical requirements.
  • Good commercial awareness and ability to deliver to agreed scope, budget and programme.
  • Strong communication skills, including ability to lead technical discussions and present recommendations clearly.

Desirable Skills / Knowledge

  • Experience with AMP8, WINEP, SROs, D&B, framework, alliance or major capital delivery environments.
  • Experience in sludge/bioresources, water reuse, pumping stations, energy recovery, odour control, chemical dosing, package plant, offsite manufacture or low-carbon mechanical solutions.
  • Experience with BIM/3D coordination, hydraulic modelling, pump system analysis, digital calculations, Power BI, Python, VBA or advanced Excel.
  • Experience supporting FAT/SAT, commissioning, performance testing, HAZOPs, SWIFT reviews or technical assurance reviews.
  • Experience mentoring junior staff and improving mechanical workflows, templates or technical standards.

Please note that you must have the right to work in the UK to be considered for this position.
