Were currently seeking a dedicated Nursing Associate to work at our inpatient unit in Thirsk. This rewarding role gives you the opportunity to deliver high-quality, compassionate care to individuals living with life-limiting illnesses. Youll become part of a supportive, multidisciplinary team providing holistic care in our Inpatient Unit setting. Your role as a Nursing Associate As a Nursing Associate, youll work closely with Registered Nurses and other healthcare professionals to provide safe, effective, and dignified care. Your role will involve: Supporting patients with a wide range of physical, emotional, and psychological needs to enhance comfort and quality of life. Delivering care in our inpatient unit, assisting with personal care, symptom management, daily routines, and emotional support in a calm and supportive environment. Providing assistance with complex symptoms, medication, nutrition, personal care, and activities of daily living, in accordance with individual care plans. Contributing to overall care planning and documentation. Job responsibilities Job Description Nursing Associate 1.Job Purpose The role of the Nursing Associate is to work with the multi disciplinary team and under the leadership of the Registered Nurse to monitor, contribute to, and inform patient care, ensuring safe and compassionate delivery of care to patients and families in the Inpatient Unit. The Nursing Associate works independently, under the leadership of the Registered Nurses, within all aspects of the nursing process. 2.Key Tasks Operational To contribute to care planning and deliver care under the leadership of a Registered Nurse to patients requiring palliative and/or end of life care. To offer timely and individual direct care based on patient need. To monitor patients for symptoms and provide non-pharmacological relief where possible, administering medication via all conventional methods and referring for senior advice when appropriate. To administer prescribed medication in accordance with NYHC guidance and policy. To monitor and identify changes in patients conditions holistically (physical, psychological, and social needs), and ensure timely escalation or intervention by the appropriate professionals when required. Delegate care tasks to healthcare assistants where appropriate, ensuring competence and monitoring outcomes. To be a second checker for controlled drugs. To undertake various nursing skills as required such as: insertion and removal of urinary catheters, and subcutaneous cannula insertion. Responsible to collect, collate, monitor and report information, maintaining accurate patient records in all formats, including written and electronic patient information systems. To accurately contribute to risk assessments and elevate any concerns regarding prescribed care when required. To act as an advocate for patients, ensuring that any barriers to patients wishes are challenged and patients dignity maintained. Contribute to safe discharge planning or care transitions by liaising with relevant professionals in the MDT. Escalate concerns promptly to the registered nurse or relevant MDT member when care reassessment is required. To communicate fully and effectively with patients, their families and professional colleagues to ensure a safe and needs led care pathway. To work as a member of the multidisciplinary team to ensure a co‑ordinated and defined management plan/plan of care for each patient. To support, train and act as a role model to junior or less experienced members of the team. Provide clear and concise written and verbal handovers to support continuity of care. Regulatory Ensure NYHCs policies relating to the security, control and administration of drugs, are adhered to in line with NMC guidance. Ensure that clinical risk management and safeguarding procedures and relevant good practice guidelines are followed at all times. To act within the Professional Bodies Code of Practice and NMC Code and Standards for Nursing Associates. Throughout your time with us we will conduct ongoing employment checks and performance reviews relevant to your role, for example professional registration checks, DBS, appraisals and regular contact meetings.
