Job description

Ready to make a real impact in the classroom and gain invaluable experience working with young people?

A highly regarded secondary school in South Tyneside is seeking enthusiastic, reliable, and motivated Teaching Assistants to join its supportive and welcoming team. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in education, whether you're considering a future in teaching, educational psychology, SEND support, or youth work.

Known for its strong sense of community, positive relationships, and commitment to student success, the school provides a structured and supportive environment where staff are valued and developed. You'll be joining a team that works collaboratively to ensure every student is given the opportunity to achieve their potential both academically and personally.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Support students across Key Stages 3 and 4 in a variety of curriculum subjects
• Provide targeted 1:1 support and small group interventions for students with additional learning needs, including ASD, ADHD, dyslexia, and social, emotional, and mental health needs
• Help students remain focused, engaged, and confident throughout lessons
• Work alongside teaching staff to adapt learning materials and classroom activities
• Encourage positive behaviour and promote student wellbeing
• Build strong, professional relationships that help students thrive both academically and socially
• Assist in creating a calm, purposeful, and inclusive learning environment

This role offers excellent exposure to secondary education, allowing you to develop practical classroom skills while making a meaningful difference to students' daily experiences.

What the School Offers

• A supportive leadership team with a genuine commitment to staff development
• Clear behaviour systems and consistent routines across the school
• A welcoming and collaborative staff culture
• Well-resourced classrooms and excellent support structures
• Opportunities to work with a diverse range of learners
• A strong focus on inclusion, student wellbeing, and achievement

Who We're Looking For

This role would suit:

• Graduates considering teacher training or a PGCE
• Individuals interested in SEND, psychology, or pastoral support
• Those with experience in coaching, mentoring, tutoring, youth work, or care settings
• Confident communicators who enjoy building positive relationships with young people
• Reliable, proactive individuals who are keen to learn and contribute

Previous school experience is beneficial but not essential. A positive attitude, willingness to learn, and genuine interest in supporting young people are what matter most.

Pay & Benefits

• £100 – £120 per day (PAYE)
• Weekly pay
• Flexible placement options
• FREE access to CPD training, including SEND, safeguarding, and behaviour management courses
• Opportunities to secure long-term or permanent school positions
• Ongoing guidance and support from a dedicated consultant

If you're looking to gain meaningful classroom experience, develop your confidence, and play an important role in helping young people succeed, we'd love to hear from you.
