Job description
Are you interested in working with the latest cloud computing technologies and becoming a core part of the largest cloud infrastructure on the planet?

AWS is seeking a Systems Engineer to build and operate services for our customers, to automate service operations and deployment methods, and provide mentoring for junior team members. You will be working in a large-scale, high availability environment, building and operating critical Cryptography, Access and Identity services for our customers.

This exciting role is designed for someone with a strong engineering background and a passion for driving efficiency, quality, and process improvements within our service operations. We are an operations team, but a key focus is driving automation to increase ops efficiency. You will have the opportunity to utilize AI tooling and to build your own solutions that automate away manual tasks.

As a Systems Engineer at Amazon you will utilize your Linux skills to troubleshoot, innovate fixes and workarounds, keep software up-to-date, and provide data and metrics that help manage the capacity and efficiency of our services. You will draw on your networking knowledge to identify and troubleshoot network connectivity issues. Our Systems Engineering roles enable engineers to develop a broad range of skills; our engineers take ownership and gain knowledge across a complex technology stack.

Top reasons to join our team:
- Learn how to build and operate distributed systems at massive scale

- Be a catalyst to deliver truly disruptive products that are growing rapidly

- Solve unique and first-order problems at massive-scale across many AWS Services

- Build and influence the tools and utilities that are part of the AWS fleet running our internal services

- Deliver solutions which reduce manual toil across our organization

Key job responsibilities
Amazon has a collaborative, purposeful and enthusiastic environment where we “Work Hard, Have Fun, Make History.”

Our Systems Engineers are expected to be leaders in their teams by becoming subject matter experts on multiple AWS services. They develop, build, deploy, operate, sustain and grow their services in cloud production environments. They are able to utilize trends and metrics to identify opportunities for improvements. They help develop and refine procedures used by their team and internal customers. They are able to develop at a high standard and can deal with new and ambiguous problem domains while consistently delivering customer impacting change.

A day in the life
On a typical day engineers might work to build infrastructure and services for our customers. They will dive deep into understanding the root cause of a customer issue, investigate why a metric is trending the wrong way and consult with senior engineers at Amazon. We believe in making out-of-hours support as painless as possible. To achieve this, we implement Operational Excellence best practices and strive to automate manual processes.
