Job description

Our client based in Cornwall is seeking an experienced Adult Social Worker to join their Mental Health Team.

This role focuses on supporting adults with complex and enduring mental health needs including individuals presenting withdual diagnosis neurodiversity learning disabilities trauma personality disorders and forensic backgrounds. You will play a key role in delivering high-quality person-centred interventions while effectively assessing and managing risk. This is an excellent opportunity for a resilient and skilled practitioner who thrives in complex environments and is confident working within statutory frameworks safeguarding processes and multi-agency settings.

What will your responsibilities be

In this role you will:

  • Manage a caseload of adults with severe and complex mental health needs delivering outcome-focused and person-centred interventions
  • Undertake Care Act 2014 assessments reviews and care planning
  • Complete robust risk assessments and implement effective risk management strategies in high-risk cases
  • Work with individuals presenting with dual diagnosis neurodiversity learning disabilities trauma personality disorders and forensic backgrounds
  • Support cases involving MAPPA and forensic histories through effective multi-agency collaboration
  • Operate within key legislative frameworks including the Mental Health Act 1983 Mental Capacity Act 2005 Care Act 2014 and Human Rights Act 1998
  • Complete Mental Capacity Assessments and contribute to Best Interests decision-making processes
  • Lead and contribute to safeguarding activity including Section 42 enquiries and Safeguarding Adults procedures
  • Undertake Court of Protection work including report writing and attendance
  • Work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams including health housing and partner agencies
  • Maintain accurate timely and high-quality case records and reports
  • Demonstrate professional curiosity sound judgement and evidence-based decision-making

Key Responsibilities

Core duties include:

  • Managing a caseload of adults withsevere and complex mental health conditions ensuring effective care management and outcome-focused interventions.
  • Undertaking comprehensiveCare Act 2014 assessments reviews and care planning.
  • Carrying out robustrisk assessments and risk management particularly in high-risk and complex cases.
  • Working with individuals withdual diagnosis (mental health and substance misuse) neurodiversity learning disabilities trauma histories and personality disorders.
  • Supporting cases involvingforensic histories and MAPPA arrangements ensuring effective multi-agency collaboration.
  • Applying and working within key legislative frameworks including:
    • Mental Health Act 1983 (MHA)
    • Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA)
    • Care Act 2014
    • Human Rights Act 1998 (HRA)
  • CompletingMental Capacity Assessmentsand contributing toBest Interests decision-makingprocesses.
  • Leading and contributing tosafeguarding activity including Section 42 enquiries and Safeguarding Adults processes.
  • Undertakingcourt work including reporting and attendance for theCourt of Protection (CoP).
  • Working collaboratively withinmulti-disciplinary teams (MDT) including health housing and external agencies.
  • Maintaining clear accurate and timely case records and reports in line with statutory requirements.
  • Demonstratingprofessional curiosity sound judgement and evidence-based decision-making in complex situations.

Qualifications & Experience

Professional Qualification: MA BA BSc in Social Work Diploma in Social Work or CQSW

Registration: Must be registered withSocial Work England

Experience:

  • Minimum2 years post-qualified experience including completion of ASYE
  • Strong experience withinAdult Social Care and Mental Health Services
  • Experience working withcomplex mental health cases including high-risk individuals
  • Experience incare management safeguarding and multi-agency working
  • Experience withcourt processes and Court of Protection work

Legislation Knowledge:

  • Strong working knowledge of:
    • Mental Health Act 1983 (MHA)
    • Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA)
    • Care Act 2014
    • Human Rights Act 1998 (HRA)
    • Safeguarding Adults legislation (including Section 42)

Skills

  • Strongrisk assessment and risk managementcapability
  • Ability to managecomplex and high-risk caseloads autonomously
  • Excellentcommunication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with vulnerable individuals
  • Ability to work collaboratively withinMDT and multi-agency environments
  • High standard ofreport writing and case recording including legal documentation
  • Demonstratesemotional resilienceand the ability to manage challenging situations
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to applyprofessional judgement

  • Full UK driving licence and access to a car is desirable
