Job description

About School of Coding & AI

School of Coding & AI is a growing education group delivering career focused Higher Education that embeds digital skills, technology and AI into the student learning experience.

Through our university partnerships, we are building practical, high quality provision that gives learners the confidence, knowledge and skills to progress into employment, further study and long term career development.

We are ambitious, collaborative and focused on delivering education with real long term impact.

Role Purpose

We are looking for a Health & Social Care Lecturer to deliver engaging, inclusive and career focused teaching across our post 16 and Higher Education provision.

This role is about more than delivering lessons. You will help students connect theory to real practice, understand the realities of the Health and Social Care sector, and develop the academic, professional and personal skills needed to progress into further study or employment.

The successful candidate will be confident in teaching learners from a range of backgrounds, able to create a positive learning environment and committed to maintaining high standards in planning, delivery, assessment and student support.

This is a good opportunity for an experienced lecturer, or a Health and Social Care professional with strong sector knowledge who is ready to move into teaching and work towards a teaching qualification.

Requirements

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Plan and deliver engaging Health and Social Care lessons across post 16 and Higher Education programmes.
  • Teach in a way that links academic theory to current sector practice, professional standards and real world scenarios.
  • Support students to develop critical thinking, confidence, employability and independent learning skills.
  • Adapt teaching approaches to meet different learning needs, abilities and levels of prior experience.
  • Create a positive, inclusive and professional learning environment where students are challenged and supported.
  • Design, update and deliver learning materials, schemes of work and assessment activities in line with curriculum requirements.
  • Mark student work accurately and provide clear, constructive feedback that helps students improve.
  • Contribute to moderation, standardisation, quality assurance and course review activity.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress, achievement and student engagement.
  • Use student progress data to identify support needs and improve learning outcomes.
  • Support students with academic and pastoral matters, referring concerns through the appropriate internal channels where needed.
  • Work with colleagues, external partners and sector contacts where appropriate to strengthen the student learning experience.

What We’re Looking For

Essential

  • A degree in Health and Social Care or a closely related subject.
  • Experience in Health and Social Care, social work, public health, nursing, care management, youth work, safeguarding, community support or a related professional area.
  • Teaching, training, tutoring or mentoring experience, ideally within FE, HE, adult learning or workplace training.
  • Strong subject knowledge and the ability to explain concepts clearly to learners at different levels.
  • A clear understanding of professional practice, safeguarding, equality, inclusion and ethical issues within Health and Social Care.
  • Good planning, organisation and time management, particularly around lesson preparation, marking and deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive, professional relationships with students and colleagues.
  • A student centred approach, with empathy, resilience and clear professional boundaries.
  • A teaching qualification, or willingness to work towards one.

Desirable

  • A Master’s degree or PhD in Health and Social Care or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience teaching Health and Social Care within FE, HE or an alternative education setting.
  • Experience designing or updating modules, assessments or learning materials.
  • Experience supporting learners from widening participation or diverse educational backgrounds.
  • Confidence using digital learning platforms and classroom technology.
  • Interest in how AI and digital tools can support teaching, learning and student engagement.
  • Experience contributing to quality assurance, moderation or academic review processes.

Why Join Us

  • Join a growing education provider at an important stage of its Higher Education development.
  • Help shape Health and Social Care provision that is practical, relevant and student focused.
  • Work with learners who are building the skills and confidence to progress into meaningful careers.
  • Be part of a collaborative academic environment where new ideas and continuous improvement are encouraged.
  • Access CPD and development opportunities as our provision continues to grow.

Benefits

  • £35,000 to £40,000 per annum, depending on experience.
  • Birmingham city centre location with excellent transport links.
  • Pension scheme.
  • Employee Assistance Programme.
  • CPD and professional development opportunities.
  • Company events.
