Working 36.5 hours per week

Birmingham is in an unprecedented period of transformational change. As a consequence of the Citys economic growth regeneration and transformation there has been a significant increase in street works activity on our highway network. It is anticipated that there will be further major utility works new developments and transportation projects over the coming years in order to accommodate future growth.

The successful candidate will become an integral part of the Network Management and Highway Approvals Team. You will assist the Traffic Managers and Senior Traffic Managers in the delivery of a coordinated planned and effective response to the Network Management Duty across the whole organisation as contained within the requirements of the Traffic Management Act 2004.

The ideal candidate will also have experience working with the following legislation New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 and The Highways Act 1980; and take a lead role in ensuring that streetworks Permits and Traffic Management Applications are assessed and actioned appropriately.

The postholder will report to one of the teams Network Managers. As part of their day-to-day duties they will assess applications promote coordination through negotiation with external stakeholders apply permit conditions to applications and ultimately approve or reject streetworks permits. They will work closely with the Network Inspectors to ensure that Works Promoters are adhering to their permit conditions and ensure the effective operation of Birminghams Permit Scheme.

We require someone with a strong understanding of streetworks and how to manage complex stakeholders who is confident enough to work in a high-profile organisation.

You will be vital in ensuring the effective management of Birminghams highway network; therefore you will need to be authoritative and confident. You have a keen eye for detail understand the importance of process and have the ability to prioritise your workload and negotiate effectively.
