Job description
Roles: Speech & Language Therapist - Bank
Location: The Harborne Hospital (Birmingham), part of HCA Healthcare UK
Contract type: Bank
Pay: Bank hourly rate between £26.51ph – £35.35 ph dependent upon shift & role type

At The Harborne Hospital we have a very diverse patient caseload supporting people with craniotomy’s, prolonged intubation, tracheostomy, Cervical spine surgeries. The Therapies department is an ever growing team currently consisting of 1 full time physio and 1 part time dietitian and soon to be recruiting another part time physio. We are supported by bank Physio’s and Dietitians as well as OT’s and SLT’s. It is likely that opportunities for permanent positions will become available as volumes of patients increase. This would enable potential for opportunities for further growth and development with support provided from our specialist SLT’s at London sites.

Above all else, we’re committed to the care and improvement of human life. It’s this guiding vision that influences everything we do at HCA UK. From the CEO to the colleagues on the floor we all have a part to play in delivering exceptional care to our patients. To others, this may just be a Bank role, but to us, you’re a valued member of our team, a team that improves lives on a daily basis.

Why join our Bank?
As part of our Bank you’ll have first refusal ahead of agencies on a range of shifts across our network of leading private hospitals. It’s a fantastic chance to gain exposure to one of the UKs leading private healthcare providers while retaining that all important flexibility over when and where you work. You can expect to work alongside leading consultants, expert colleagues and be recognised for the vital role you play within our team.

What you’ll bring
  • Right to work in the UK (no sponsorship supplied for Bank roles)
  • HCPC Registration
  • SALT degree qualification or equivalent
  • Experience working in a hospital setting

With this role there will be the opportunity to upskill in instrumental assessments (FEES and VFSS) and clinical supervision can be provided from the wider HCA team of SLT’s.

Who are HCA UK?
Originally founded over 50 years ago by Dr Thomas Frist, HCA has gone on to become one of the world’s leading healthcare providers. In the UK, we’re one of the largest providers of privately funded healthcare and have invested over £500 million in the latest treatments, technology, techniques, medication and facilities. Being part of a large multisite, established healthcare group we offer the chance to broaden your clinical knowledge and thanks to our exceptional clinician to patient ratios, a healthy work environment that gives you more time to do what you do best: care.

Culture and values
At HCA UK we believe exceptional care starts with our people. We celebrate the unique perspectives and different experiences each of us bring. Our mission is simple, above all else we’re committed to the care and improvement of human life. To achieve this, we live and breathe four core values:
  • Unique and Individual: We recognise and value everyone as unique and individual
  • Kindness and compassion: We treat people with kindness and compassion
  • Honesty, integrity and fairness: We act with absolute honesty, integrity and fairness
  • Loyalty, respect and dignity: We trust and treat one another as valued members of the HCA UK family with loyalty, respect and dignity

Reasonable adjustments
We believe everyone should feel comfortable to bring their full self to work and be afforded the same opportunities. As a Disability Confident committed organisation, we’re happy to discuss flexible working arrangements to suit your needs as well as offer reasonable adjustments throughout our recruitment process, and in the workplace, to anyone that needs them.

Life with us means taking pride in your team and delivering the highest quality care. We’ll support your ongoing learning in an environment that features advanced equipment and practices, one of the best colleague-to-patient ratios in the UK and varied, interesting work. As part of HCA Healthcare US, the world’s largest healthcare company, we can also promise that you’ll learn from experts in every department and that your opportunities will be endless. With us, you’ll be empowered to achieve more in your career, and more for our patients.
