Job description
Location: London, The Princess Grace Hospital
Type: Full time, 37.5 hours per week
Schedule: Monday to Friday
Job Type: Permanent
Salary: £Competitive, with an excellent benefits package

We’re looking for an Operating Theatre Manager to join our Operating Theatres Department at The Princess Grace Hospital. This role offers the opportunity to lead at scale within a highly respected service with a well‑established robotic surgery programme, where your expertise, judgement and leadership presence will have a visible impact. You’ll work closely with highly regarded Consultants and senior clinical colleagues, building credibility through clear decision making, confident leadership and a calm, assured approach in a complex clinical environment.

As an Operating Theatre Manager, you’ll have the autonomy to lead day to day operations while also contributing to longer term direction and development. Working closely with the Surgical Services Manager, you’ll balance operational grip with strategic input, providing clear leadership in a fast-paced setting where expectations are high and priorities can shift quickly. This is a role for someone who enjoys being visible in the department, trusted to make decisions, and motivated by leading people, performance and quality within a demanding perioperative environment.

About the Princess Grace Theatres
The operating theatres at The Princess Grace Hospital are among the most advanced in the HCA UK network, supporting care at significant scale and complexity. The department comprises eight state‑of‑the‑art operating theatres, including a hybrid theatre, robotic surgery suites and three laminar flow theatres for complex orthopaedic surgery. The hospital has a well‑established robotics programme, operating two Da Vinci robotic systems and having completed over 500 robotic procedures to date. Theatre teams deliver perioperative care across a wide range of surgical specialities including orthopaedics, urology, general surgery, colorectal, thoracic, gynaecology, breast surgery including reconstructive and microsurgery, and spinal surgery.

At HCA UK we care about what you care about. We care that you want to deliver the very best care. We care that you want a career you can be proud of. We care that you want working conditions that support your health and wellbeing. Let us care for you and your career, the same way you do for others.

What you’ll do:
  • Provide confident clinical and operational leadership across operating theatres, ensuring safe, effective and high-quality perioperative services
  • Lead and develop multidisciplinary theatre teams across scrub, anaesthetics and recovery, setting clear expectations and supporting performance in a demanding environment
  • Oversee theatre utilisation, list management and workforce planning, maintaining grip during periods of pressure and change
  • Hold responsibility for budgets, clinical governance, risk management, audit activity and CQC compliance within the theatre department
  • Work closely with Consultants and senior stakeholders to support service development, manage complexity and introduce new surgical techniques and technology

What you’ll bring:
  • A recognised professional qualification with current NMC or HCPC registration
  • Proven experience in a senior theatre leadership role within operating theatres or a complex perioperative setting
  • Strong knowledge of patient safety, clinical governance, quality improvement and regulatory compliance
  • The confidence and resilience to lead multidisciplinary teams, influence senior stakeholders and manage differing perspectives constructively
  • The ability to remain calm, decisive and visible within a fast-paced clinical environment
