Job description

The Supported Internship Lead is responsible for the delivery, coordination and quality assurance of a high‑quality Supported Internship programme for learners with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). The role combines teaching delivery (2 days per week) with dedicated remission time (2 days per week) to lead work placement coordination, employer engagement and job‑coach practice. The post holder will ensure learners are work‑ready, well supported in meaningful placements and progress into sustained paid employment wherever achievable, in line with the SEND Code of Practice, Preparing for Adulthood outcomes and Ofsted expectations. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Teaching Responsibilities (2 days per week) Deliver high-quality, inclusive teaching to Supported Internship learners. Embed employability skills, workplace behaviours, independence and personal development within teaching sessions. Plan and assess learning against Preparing for Adulthood (PfA) and employment-focused outcomes. Monitor learner progress and contribute to reviews, EHCP documentation and transition planning. Maintain high expectations for attendance, behaviour and professional conduct. Supported Internship Leadership & Work Placement Coordination (2 days remission) Lead the day-to-day operational delivery of the Supported Internship programme. Coordinate and quality assure work placements to ensure they are purposeful, safe and employment-led. Work closely with job coaches to ensure consistent practice, appropriate support levels and effective tapering. Chair and contribute to meetings with job coaches and relevant staff, ensuring agreed actions are completed. Monitor learner destinations, progression and employment outcomes. Employer Engagement Develop, sustain and expand employer partnerships that lead to paid employment opportunities. Undertake employer visits to complete health and safety checks and risk assessments. Support employers with reasonable adjustments and inclusive workplace practices. Liaise with employers to address placement issues and promote positive outcomes. Administration, Compliance and Quality Maintain accurate and up-to-date learner records in line with college systems and processes. Ensure compliance with the SEND Code of Practice, safeguarding requirements and health and safety legislation. Contribute to quality assurance processes and prepare relevant evidence for inspection. Use Access to Work funding appropriately to support learner progression and employment sustainability. Is This You? • Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (or willingness to work towards) • SEN-specific training (e.g., autism awareness, trauma-informed practice) • English & Maths at Level 2 or above • Experience teaching or supporting learners with SEND and SEMH • Understanding of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) • Experience in post-16, specialist, or alternative education • Background in multi-agency collaboration (e.g., with SENCOs, CAMHS, social care) • Ability to differentiate and adapt teaching for a range of needs • Effective behaviour management and emotional support strategies • Strong interpersonal and communication skills • Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with students and colleagues • Competent in tracking learner progress and setting meaningful targets • Empathetic, patient, and resilient • Passionate about inclusive education and learner wellbeing • Reflective, proactive, and committed to continuous professional development • High expectations for all learners and dedication to safeguarding Your Future Starts at Oaklands At Oaklands, we care about your wellbeing and development.
