Salary Scale: £92 – £115 per day (Depending on experience)

Are you a resilient and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant looking to support young people in overcoming barriers to learning?

GSL Education Hull Branch are currently seeking an SEMH Teaching Assistant to work within a supportive and inclusive secondary school in North Yorkshire. We are looking for a dedicated, patient, and proactive support professional who is passionate about helping students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs develop the confidence, resilience, and skills to succeed both academically and personally.

SEMH Teaching Assistant Role:

The successful SEMH Teaching Assistant will provide targeted support to students with SEMH needs, working closely with teachers and pastoral staff to promote positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and engagement in learning. We are looking to recruit an SEMH Teaching Assistant who can build trusting relationships with young people and respond calmly and effectively to challenging situations.

SEMH Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with SEMH needs and behavioural challenges
  • Assist teachers in delivering engaging lessons and adapting activities to meet individual student needs
  • Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and resilience through consistent support and encouragement
  • Help implement behaviour support plans and monitor student progress and wellbeing
  • Create a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment where students can thrive
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, parents, and external professionals to support positive outcomes

SEMH Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, SEND, or behavioural needs is highly desirable
  • Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills
  • A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach to supporting young people with additional needs
  • A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
  • An up-to-date CV covering the last ten years (with any gaps explained)
  • An enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or willingness to apply
