Job description

Job summary A specialist paediatric dietitian (Band 6) will provide high‑quality specialist dietetic services to paediatric inpatients, out‑patients, and community‑based patients at Croydon University Hospital. The role supports a small team of paediatric dietitians, collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, engages in research, audit, and education, and offers a strong student training programme. Main duties * Provide specialist dietetic care to paediatric inpatients and out‑patients referred by GP, consultant or other authorised professionals. * Work collaboratively with wider paediatric teams to deliver seamless, joined‑up care. * Undertake research, audit and service development activities. * Provide education and training to nurses, GPs, student nurses, dietetic students and other HC professionals. * Proactively identify and act on opportunities for service development. * Liaise with multidisciplinary team members on ward, GPs, health visitors, school nurses, BDA Paediatric Group, home enteral feeding services and allied health professionals. Person specification Education and qualifications (essential) * BSc in Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent qualification or Postgraduate Diploma in Dietetics. * Current HCPC registration. Desirable qualifications * Member of the British Dietetic Association Obesity Specialist Group. * Post‑registration BDA specialist interest group validated course in paediatric dietetics. Knowledge, skills and experience (essential) * Strong interest and commitment to paediatrics, with transferrable skills for those moving into paediatric dietetics. * Inpatient and outpatient clinical experience. * Evidence of self‑directed learning and willingness to engage in CPD. * Postgraduate experience in NHS acute or community services. * Experience delivering training at various levels. * Experience of dietetic student training, assessment or programme development. * Experience of audit and measurement of dietetic outcomes. * Experience working with patients from diverse cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds. * Experience delivering group and one‑to‑one education. Desirable knowledge, skills and experience * Experience working with children as a dietitian. * Experience working within a multidisciplinary team. * Experience of telephone, virtual and face‑to‑face consultations. * Experience using EMIS & CERNER systems. Essential skills and abilities * Excellent oral and written communication skills with diverse patient groups. * Ability to provide specialised advice concerning paediatric patient care. * Ability to work through distractions and maintain focus. * Strong initiative and independent working style. * Effective prioritisation of workload and meeting deadlines. * Teaching, presentation and group facilitation skills. * Excellent IT skills. * Time‑management skills. Other essential requirements * Able to move supplies and bend, reach, and sit for prolonged periods. * Able to perform administrative duties effectively with minimal supervision. * Confident, self‑motivated and able to build effective working relationships with colleagues. * Flexible, adaptable and creative. Legal and regulatory requirements * This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975; a Disclosure and Barring Service check will be required. * Applicants must have current UK professional registration (HCPC).
