Job description
Music Teacher Location: Steyning Contract type: Full-time Salary: MPS / UPS Wayman Education is seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic, and passionate teacher of music to join a creative and vibrant performing arts department at an exceptional secondary school in Steyning. This full-time position offers an exciting opportunity to deliver inspiring practical and theoretical music lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, with the potential for Key Stage 5 delivery for an appropriately qualified candidate. The school is renowned for its supportive leadership, strong community ethos, and dedication to the arts as a vital component of a well-rounded education. The music team is collaborative, forward-thinking, and deeply committed to building students' confidence, performance skills, and musical understanding, resulting in high levels of student engagement and excellent examination results. Key responsibilities Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality, engaging music lessons that inspire and challenge students across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. Develop innovative schemes of work that balanced practical performance and composition skills with listening, appraising, and musical theory. Assess, track, and report on student progress and attainment in line with exam board specifications, providing constructive feedback to support development. Support and contribute to the school's extra-curricular music program, including ensembles, choirs, school productions, and concerts. Maintain high expectations for student behavior and achievement, cultivating a safe, inclusive, and collaborative creative environment. Requirements Qualifications: Must hold QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) or QTLS, alongside a degree in music or a closely related discipline. Experience: A proven track record of teaching music within a UK secondary school setting (including successful ITT/PGCE placements). Skills: Exceptional subject knowledge, confident classroom management, proficiency in performance/instrumental skills, and the ability to inspire students of all abilities and musical backgrounds. A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
