Job description

CORE PURPOSE We require a dedicated, highly driven Maths Teacher to deliver high-quality mathematical instruction across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. Operating within a vibrant, multi-cultural community school, the successful candidate will facilitate a structured, mastery-led curriculum designed to foster deep numerical fluency, logical reasoning, and confident problem-solving skills, preparing all pupils thoroughly for terminal GCSE public examinations and day-to-day functional mathematical application. KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS Mastery-Based Instruction: Plan, resource, and deliver highly engaging mathematics lessons across all attainment pathways, embedding a concrete-pictorial-abstract approach to demystify complex algebraic, geometric, and statistical concepts. Closing Attainment Gaps: Identify and target deep-seated learning barriers, deploying structured scaffolding and specialized numeracy interventions to accelerate the progress of disadvantaged pupils and those with diverse learning needs. Rigorous Pupil Tracking: Implement consistent, low-stakes formative assessment routines, meticulously analysing weekly homework and formal mock scripts to spot misconceptions early and adapt planning accordingly. GCSE Preparation: Guide Year 11 cohorts systematically through the demands of terminal Foundation and Higher tier GCSE Mathematics papers, building exam stamina, decoding multi-step word problems, and mastering reasoning marks. Community Pastoral Care: Fulfill full form tutor responsibilities within a established year group structure, managing daily registration, delivering pastoral curriculum units, and maintaining proactive communication with families regarding attendance and welfare. ENVIRONMENT & STRUCTURE Local Authority Framework: Operating under the direct oversight of the local council, this traditional community school remains deeply rooted in local accountability, following standard national pay scales and prioritizing comprehensive, inclusive education for the surrounding neighbourhood. Inclusive School Culture: The school features a warm, inclusive, and highly diverse campus environment. Behaviour systems are centered on clear, positive boundaries and restorative conversations, aiming to build a supportive community where pupils from all backgrounds feel valued and safe. PROFILE REQUIREMENTS Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or a recognized equivalent teaching credential, paired with a strong honours degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related numerical discipline. Pedagogical Capability: A proven track record or clear capacity to deliver strong progress metrics in terminal public GCSE examinations across both tiers through explicit, highly structured maths pedagogy. Inclusive Mindset: An unwavering commitment to urban education, demonstrating the patience, cultural literacy, and adaptability required to inspire and support pupils in an exceptionally diverse urban setting. REGIONAL CONTEXT Urban Regeneration & Greater Manchester Dynamics: Based in the city of Manchester, the school serves a dynamic community undergoing extensive urban regeneration. The local context provides rich real-world data for data-handling modules, connecting mathematical literacy directly to the city's rapidly expanding financial, digital, and construction sectors. Connectivity & Infrastructure: The locality boasts exceptional transport links, providing seamless commuting via the M60 orbital motorway and major arterial routes like the A6 and A57. Public transit runs flawlessly across the region, utilizing the extensive Metrolink tram network and comprehensive rail connections from Manchester Piccadilly, Victoria, and Oxford Road stations, offering direct routes right across Greater Manchester, Cheshire, and Lancashire. APPLICATION INTAKE Please submit your current CV to begin the application process.
