Senior Care Assistant - St Aiden's/Nevilles Court

Location: Bearpark OR Nevilles Cross

Salary: £13.52 per hour

Job Type: Permanent / On-site

Shift: Days or Nights, 40 hours per week

About the Role

We are looking for a committed, knowledgeable, and compassionate Senior Care Assistant to join our dedicated team in Durham. In this vital role, you will support the Nurse in Charge and take an active lead in overseeing a team of Care Assistants to ensure that every resident receives the highest possible standard of person-centred care.

As a Senior Care Assistant, you will be responsible for providing hands-on support with daily living activities, encouraging independence, and safeguarding the dignity and well-being of each individual. You will also take on key clinical responsibilities such as administering medication, contributing to care planning, and ensuring accurate documentation.

You will play a central role in creating a homely, nurturing environment by coordinating meaningful activities, supporting residents with mobility and personal care, and liaising closely with multidisciplinary teams, families, and external professionals. This is a role where your leadership skills and commitment to exceptional care can make a real and lasting difference in people's lives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, supervise, and support Care Assistants to maintain outstanding standards of care
  • Deliver compassionate personal care while promoting residents' independence, dignity, and choices
  • Organise, coordinate, and participate in enriching activities, outings, and social opportunities
  • Attend MDT (multidisciplinary team) meetings and contribute actively to assessments and care planning
  • Administer medication safely in line with internal policies and legal frameworks
  • Maintain clear, accurate, and up-to-date records, including daily notes and incident reports
  • Assist in developing, reviewing, and updating individual care plans and risk assessments
  • Support residents with mobility, physical disabilities, and rehabilitation activities
  • Assist during mealtimes, ensuring residents receive appropriate nutritional support
  • Uphold stringent hygiene and infection-control standards throughout the home
  • Report any changes in residents' health, behaviour, or needs promptly and appropriately

Essential Criteria:

  • Level 3 Safe Handling of Medication Certificate (evidence required)
  • Previous experience and relevant qualifications within a care or medical setting
  • A caring, patient, and empathetic approach with a genuine desire to help others
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to provide leadership, support colleagues, and maintain high-quality care standards
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and solution-focused in challenging situations
