Job description
History Teacher Location: Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire Start Date: September 2026 Contract: Full-time, Permanent Salary: MPS / UPS (Dependent on experience) Wayman Education is seeking an enthusiastic and captivating History Teacher to join a highly successful humanities department at an exceptional secondary school in Sawbridgeworth. This full-time, permanent position is scheduled to start in September 2026 and is well-suited for either an experienced historian looking for a fresh challenge or an ambitious Early Career Teacher (ECT). The school has an excellent reputation for academic achievement, strong leadership, and a highly collaborative working environment. The history department is a popular and cohesive team, dedicated to bringing the past to life through dynamic lesson planning, shared resources, and engaging curriculum delivery that inspires historical inquiry. Key Responsibilities Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality, engaging history lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (with potential opportunities to teach Key Stage 5 / A-Level for a suitably qualified candidate). Foster a deep interest in historical concepts, encouraging students to analyze sources critically, evaluate interpretations, and build structured, evidence-based arguments. Assess, track, and report on the academic progress and attainment of pupils in line with GCSE exam board specifications and school marking policies. Implement effective adaptive teaching strategies to challenge high-attaining pupils and provide robust support for students with diverse learning needs or SEND. Contribute to the wider life of the humanities department, participating in standardization, open evenings, and potential extracurricular historical trips. Requirements Qualifications: Must hold QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) or QTLS, alongside a degree in History or a closely related humanities discipline. Experience: A proven track record of teaching history within a UK secondary school setting (including successful ITT/PGCE placements). Skills: Exceptional subject knowledge, strong classroom management techniques, and a passion for making historical narratives accessible and relevant to all learners. A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
