Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated midwife to join our maternity leadership team as a Band 7 BSOTS Quality and Audit Midwife.
Main duties of the job

The post holder will play a pivotal role in supporting the implementation, coordination and ongoing evaluation of the BSOT (Birmingham Symptom-specific Obstetric Triage) system across maternity services, ensuring safe, effective and high-quality care delivery in line with national standards and organisational priorities.Working collaboratively with matrons, senior midwives and the multidisciplinary team, the successful candidate will lead on quality improvement initiatives, audit activity and governance processes to provide assurance regarding compliance with care standards in line with the Perinatal Improvement Plan.This role is ideal for a dynamic midwife with experience in delivering care under the BSOTs system, who has strong clinical leadership skills, a passion for quality improvement and a commitment to enhancing patient safety and experience.On the day of the interview, you will be asked to give a 10-minute presentation on the topic of:Why effective data collection and presentation is essential for providing assurance about performance.

We are a large tertiary referral centre with more than 8500 deliveries each year across 2 sites. Each site has specific maternal medicine specialities and we have level 3 neonatal facilities at the LGI site and level 2 at SJUH site. We have a 3 bedded alongside midwifery unit- Lotus Midwifery Unit- at the LGI site, with birth pools available at both sites.

We work closely with obstetric, anaesthetic and neonatal colleagues on our perinatal improvement journey and are passionate about and dedicated to improving experiences and outcomes for our service users. What you will bring to the role
  • Lead the assessment, planning, implementation and ongoing development of the BSOTS system within maternity services.
  • Monitor, evaluate and improve patient care through audit, service evaluation and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Provide assurance of compliance with maternity care standards and required response timeframes.
  • Analyse workforce and service data to support safe staffing and effective service delivery.
  • Promote a culture of continuous quality improvement across maternity services.
  • Develop and implement systems and processes to minimise risk in response to incidents, complaints, PALS concerns and governance findings.
  • Support the investigation and review of clinical incidents and contribute to action planning and learning dissemination.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to improve patient safety, outcomes and patient experience.
  • Produce reports and present findings to governance groups, senior leadership teams and external stakeholders as required.
  • Support staff engagement, education and development in relation to quality improvement and governance processes.
  • Ensure care delivery aligns with national guidance, local policies and professional standards.
