Job description
Reporting to the Children's Home Manager Employment type: Permanent Salary: £32-38,000 per annum Hours: Full time (45 hours per week) Overnight shifts, typically 10:30pm – 7:30am across five nights per week with flexibility for the right person With 33 days annual leave , ethical workplace pension , wellbeing benefits , training and development opportunities and career progression . The Role: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Night-Time Support Worker to provide consistent, high-quality overnight care within a children’s residential setting. The focus of the role is to maintain a safe, calm and nurturing environment, supporting young people’s emotional wellbeing, responding to any needs during the night and ensuring the home is well prepared for the day ahead. This role sits within a therapeutic, trauma-informed home, embodying Hygge’s values of generosity, curiosity and courage grounded in compassion, empowerment and relational practice. Key Responsibilities: Overnight Care and Support Provide supervision and support throughout the night Respond calmly and promptly to any child or young person who wakes or requires support Offer reassurance and maintain a predictable, consistent presence Escalate concerns in line with safeguarding and organisational procedures Health, Safety and Safeguarding Follow all safeguarding procedures at all times Support any healthcare or wellbeing needs in line with training and care plans Maintain a safe and secure environment overnight Complete health and safety checks in the house Household Duties Complete domestic tasks including: Cleaning and maintaining communal areas Laundry and general housekeeping Preparing meals for the following day Ensuring the home is organised and ready for morning routines Recording and Communication Maintain accurate records of the night’s events Provide effective handovers to the day team Communicate any incidents or concerns clearly and appropriately Team Working Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure consistent care Share responsibility for waking/ sleeping duties as part of a rota Participate in team meetings and training as required What We Offer: A competitive salary of £32-38,000 per annum, based on experience and qualifications. What we are hoping for from you: Essential Experience working with children or vulnerable adults Calm, patient and emotionally resilient approach Ability to respond appropriately to distress or unexpected situations Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities Strong communication and recording skills Ability to work independently during night shifts Flexibility and reliability Desirable Previous waking night or sleep-in experience Knowledge of trauma-informed or therapeutic care approaches Experience supporting individuals with additional or complex needs Relevant qualification in health and social care Personal Qualities You will: Be calm, observant and responsive Provide reassurance without escalating anxiety Work consistently and reliably overnight Be both practical and emotionally attuned Take pride in maintaining a safe, welcoming home environment Other Requirements: Flexibility to work overnight shifts on a rota basis (incl. weekends and bank holidays). Full driving licence Right to work in the UK. Please note that we are unable to offer visa sponsorship. While your presence is essential to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the children, we recognise that team members also have personal responsibilities and family commitments. When routine or life events arise, we aim to approach these with understanding and will work with you to find practical and reasonable solutions wherever possible. To protect children’s health and to model positive behaviours, staff must not smoke or vape while on duty, during sleep-ins or anywhere on the home or car premises at any time. Staff are expected to present as non-smoking and non-vaping to children and young people.
