Job description
A visionary and high-achieving secondary school in Slough is seeking a strategic and inspiring Head of Science to join its Senior Middle Leadership Team this September. This is a permanent, full-time position for a scientist who is passionate about building a culture of enquiry, logic, and academic ambition. The department is a flagship of the school, boasting high levels of student engagement and a strong presence in the local STEM community. The Role As the Head of Science, you will take full responsibility for the standards of teaching and learning across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. You will be tasked with developing a cohesive and challenging curriculum that bridges the gap between foundational KS3 principles and advanced KS5 research. Beyond the classroom, you will provide high-quality coaching and professional development for a large team of specialists, including ECTs and experienced practitioners. You will monitor student progress across all year groups, implementing data-driven interventions to ensure that every pupil, regardless of their starting point, reaches their full potential. The Ideal Candidate Will Have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a strong academic background with a degree in a Science discipline. Proven experience in a middle leadership role, such as a Key Stage Coordinator or Second in Department. Consistently "Outstanding" classroom practice with a track record of excellent results at both GCSE and A-Level. The ability to lead with empathy and clarity while maintaining exceptionally high expectations. A deep understanding of current pedagogical research and a commitment to practical-led, enquiry-based learning.
