Renowned Independent School | Cambridge, Cambridgeshire

Contract: Full-Time, Permanent
Start Date: September 2026
Salary: Competitive Independent School Salary

Inspire a Lifelong Love of Literature and Language

Great English teachers do more than teach grammar, poetry, and literary analysis. They inspire students to think critically, communicate confidently, and develop a deep appreciation for the power of language.

A leading independent school in Cambridge is seeking an inspiring and knowledgeable English Teacher to join its thriving academic community. This is an opportunity to teach curious, motivated students who enjoy learning and are encouraged to question, explore ideas, and develop intellectual independence.

Whether guiding students through classic literature, contemporary texts, creative writing, or language analysis, you will have the freedom and support to bring your subject to life through engaging lessons and innovative teaching approaches.

You'll join a school where teaching is valued, class sizes are small, relationships matter, and staff are trusted to focus on what they do best: inspiring young people.

The Opportunity

As a member of the English department, you will:

  • Teach English Language and Literature at GCSE and A Level.

  • Deliver engaging and intellectually stimulating lessons.

  • Develop students' critical thinking, analytical and communication skills.

  • Prepare students for examination success while fostering a genuine love of reading and writing.

  • Contribute to curriculum development and departmental initiatives.

  • Support enrichment activities including literary societies, writing competitions, theatre visits, author talks, and educational trips.

  • Play an active role in the wider life of the school through pastoral and extracurricular involvement.

About You

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent teaching qualification.

  • Possess strong subject knowledge and a passion for English Language and Literature.

  • Have experience teaching English at GCSE and/or A Level.

  • Build positive and productive relationships with students.

  • Demonstrate high expectations for achievement, effort and behaviour.

  • Bring enthusiasm, creativity and fresh ideas to the classroom.

  • Enjoy working collaboratively within a supportive department and wider school community.

Why Join This School?

The school offers:

  • Highly motivated and engaged students.

  • Small class sizes and excellent teacher-student relationships.

  • Outstanding facilities and resources.

  • A supportive and collaborative staff culture.

  • A strong commitment to staff wellbeing and professional development.

  • A rich programme of extracurricular activities and educational visits.

  • Excellent opportunities for career progression within a respected independent school environment.
