System Development Engineer, AWS Networking

What you’ll be working on:

- Identifying and solving challenging systems, process and tooling issues to make things better for our customers
- Designing and implementing entire new software components, products or services which improve operational efficiency
- Investigating technical issues thoroughly, performing root cause analysis, identifying changes to procedures and systems and implementing long term fixes to avoid repeating issues.
- Providing solutions to technically challenging real business problems in a global organization



Key job responsibilities
A SysDE is responsible for maintaining and improving their team's services end-to-end, requiring them to troubleshoot and identify the root cause of issues that arise within their systems. They will design and implement testing, monitoring, and validation improvements across services, tools, and infrastructure to ensure their teams can continuously deploy new versions with minimal interruption. A SysDE will proactively identify areas to invent, refine, and develop automation and tools to reduce manual operations across teams, making pragmatic trade-offs to fulfill both current and future requirements of the business and their customers.

The Systems Development team manages all of the software services and platforms that builds, operates, monitors and assures the AWS network within entire regions. We design and implement automation and new software solutions to improve operational efficiency on behalf of our Network Engineer customers. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust
- Relevant experience in software development, systems engineering, SRE or DevOps roles
- Knowledge of professional software engineering best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
- Practical understanding of network fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, routing, switching, HTTP)
- Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals (host networking, storage, linux operating systems)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience of designing, developing or operating cloud services running on AWS or another cloud platform
- Experience with Python
