Technology -Infrastructure Architect (Capacity & Performance Multi-Platform)
Location -Leeds/Warwick UK

Role Overview: The Infrastructure Architect will be responsible for designing optimizing and managing enterprise IT infrastructure across Compute (AIX/Linux Windows/VMware) Storage and Network domains with strong focus on capacity planning performance engineering and operational resilience.

The role will support large-scale enterprise environments and ensure high availability scalability and performance optimization across all infrastructure layers.

Key Responsibilities
1. Infrastructure Architecture & Design

• Define and maintain end-to-end infrastructure architecture across:

1. Compute (IBM AIX Linux Windows)
2. Virtualization (VMware ESXi vCenter)
3. Storage (SAN/NAS backup platforms)
4. Network (LAN/WAN DC networking)

• Provide architectural solutions for scalable resilient and secure infrastructure platforms
• Ensure alignment with enterprise standards CMDB and configuration management practices.

2. Capacity Planning & Management

• Perform capacity forecasting for compute storage and network resources
• Analyze trends for CPU memory storage IO and network utilization
• Recommend and implement capacity optimization strategies
• Collaborate with application DB and infra teams for growth planning.

3. Performance Engineering & Optimization

• Lead performance analysis and tuning across AIX/Linux/Windows and VMware environments
• Identify bottlenecks across:

1. CPU memory disk IO network throughput

• Optimize workloads using tools/technologies (e.g. monitoring alerting platforms as referenced in infra monitoring scope)
• Drive proactive performance improvement initiatives

4. Compute Platform Leadership (AIX / Windows / VMware)

• Oversee:

1. AIX (POWER LPAR PowerVC environments)
2. Windows Server & Active Directory
3. VMware infrastructure lifecycle (ESXi vCenter clusters)

• Support activities including:

1. OS monitoring patching lifecycle management
2. VM provisioning decommissioning and performance tuning.

5. Storage & Backup Architecture

• Design and manage SAN/NAS storage environments
• Optimize storage performance (IOPS throughput latency)
• Lead backup/recovery strategy and disaster recovery alignment
• Work with tools like enterprise backup (e.g. Spectrum Protect etc. based on environment patterns)

6. Network Architecture & Integration

• Define and review:

1. Data center networking routing/switching
2. Connectivity between compute storage and application layers

• Work closely with network architects for performance troubleshooting
• Ensure network supports infrastructure scalability and HA needs

7. Monitoring Automation & Reliability

• Implement and enhance monitoring solutions for infra health alerts & performance
• Drive automation for:

1. Provisioning
2. Capacity reporting
3. Performance tuning

• Improve observability across infra stack

8. Incident Problem & Change Management

• Lead resolution of complex L2/L3 infrastructure issues
• Drive root cause analysis for recurring performance issues
• Work within ITIL processes (Incident Problem Change)

9. Disaster Recovery & High Availability

• Design DR/HA solutions for critical infrastructure
• Ensure infrastructure readiness for failover scenarios
• Periodically validate DR drills

Experience

• 1015 years of experience in infrastructure architecture / engineering
• Proven experience in large enterprise environments (multi-DC hybrid infra)

Soft Skills

• Strong stakeholder management (cross teams: storage network apps)
• Excellent problem-solving & analytical skills
• Ability to lead design discussions and technical governance
