Job descriptionRole - Technology ArchitectTechnology - Infrastructure Architect (Capacity & Performance, Multi-Platform)Location - Leeds/Warwick UK Role Overview: The Infrastructure Architect will be responsible for designing, optimizing, and managing enterprise IT infrastructure across Compute (AIX/Linux, Windows/VMware), Storage, and Network domains, with strong focus on capacity planning, performance engineering, and operational resilience.The role will support large-scale enterprise environments and ensure high availability, scalability, and performance optimization across all infrastructure layers.Key Responsibilities1. Infrastructure Architecture & DesignDefine and maintain end-to-end infrastructure architecture across: Compute (IBM AIX, Linux, Windows)Virtualization (VMware – ESXi, vCenter)Storage (SAN/NAS, backup platforms)Network (LAN/WAN, DC networking)Provide architectural solutions for scalable, resilient, and secure infrastructure platformsEnsure alignment with enterprise standards, CMDB, and configuration management practices.2. Capacity Planning & ManagementPerform capacity forecasting for compute, storage, and network resourcesAnalyze trends for CPU, memory, storage, IO, and network utilizationRecommend and implement capacity optimization strategiesCollaborate with application, DB, and infra teams for growth planning.3. Performance Engineering & OptimizationLead performance analysis and tuning across AIX/Linux/Windows and VMware environmentsIdentify bottlenecks across: CPU, memory, disk IO, network throughputOptimize workloads using tools/technologies (e.g., monitoring, alerting platforms as referenced in infra monitoring scope)Drive proactive performance improvement initiatives4. Compute Platform Leadership (AIX / Windows / VMware)Oversee: AIX (POWER, LPAR, PowerVC environments)Windows Server & Active DirectoryVMware infrastructure lifecycle (ESXi, vCenter, clusters)Support activities including: OS monitoring, patching, lifecycle managementVM provisioning, decommissioning, and performance tuning.5. Storage & Backup ArchitectureDesign and manage SAN/NAS storage environmentsOptimize storage performance (IOPS, throughput, latency)Lead backup/recovery strategy and disaster recovery alignmentWork with tools like enterprise backup (e.g., Spectrum Protect, etc. based on environment patterns) 6. Network Architecture & IntegrationDefine and review: Data center networking, routing/switchingConnectivity between compute, storage, and application layersWork closely with network architects for performance troubleshootingEnsure network supports infrastructure scalability and HA needs7. Monitoring, Automation & ReliabilityImplement and enhance monitoring solutions for infra health, alerts & performanceDrive automation for:ProvisioningCapacity reportingPerformance tuningImprove observability across infra stack8. Incident, Problem & Change ManagementLead resolution of complex L2/L3 infrastructure issuesDrive root cause analysis for recurring performance issuesWork within ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, Change)9.
