Job description

Do you have a positive attitude, plenty of patience, and a genuine desire to help young people succeed?

Our partner schools across Midsomer Norton, Peasedown St. John, and Radstock are looking for caring, confident individuals to support students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. No formal teaching qualifications are required—what matters most is your ability to build relationships, remain calm under pressure, and provide consistent support to young people who may face challenges in school.

This role is ideal for people from a variety of backgrounds, including youth work, care, coaching, customer service, support work, mentoring, community roles, or anyone with experience working with children and young people.

The Role

As an SEMH/SEN Educator, you'll support students throughout the school day, helping them stay engaged, regulated, and confident in their learning. You'll work alongside teaching staff to create a positive, structured environment where every student feels understood and supported.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting students in the classroom and around the school
  • Encouraging engagement with learning and classroom activities
  • Building positive relationships based on trust, consistency, and respect
  • Supporting students with a range of additional needs, including SEMH, autism, ADHD, and learning difficulties
  • Using calm and patient approaches to help manage challenging situations
  • Promoting positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing
  • Helping to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment
  • Following safeguarding procedures and reporting concerns appropriately

About You

We're looking for people who understand that every young person is different and that building strong relationships is often the key to helping them succeed.

You don't need formal qualifications or school-based experience to apply. We would love to hear from you if you:

  • Have a positive, can-do attitude
  • Are patient, understanding, and resilient
  • Can remain calm in challenging situations
  • Have a genuine interest in supporting young people
  • Are confident communicating with children and adults
  • Understand that behaviour is often a form of communication
  • Are able to build trust and encourage confidence in others
  • Want to make a meaningful difference in students' lives

Experience in any of the following would be beneficial, but is not essential:

  • Youth work or mentoring
  • Care or support work
  • Sports coaching
  • Community or voluntary work
  • Customer-facing roles
  • Working with children, young people, or vulnerable adults
  • Supporting individuals with additional needs

Why Choose Protocol Education?

  • Flexible working opportunities to fit around your lifestyle
  • Competitive pay of £14.25–£15.50 per hour, paid weekly
  • Opportunities across schools in Midsomer Norton, Peasedown St. John, and Radstock
  • Ongoing support from dedicated consultants
  • Access to training and development opportunities
  • Simple and easy-to-use booking system
  • PAYE pay with no umbrella company deductions
  • £50 referral bonus for recommending a teacher or support staff member

What We Need to Get You Started

  • Right to work in the UK (passport, share code, or relevant documentation)
  • Two proofs of address (e.g. driving licence, utility bill, or council tax statement)
  • An up-to-date CV covering the last 10 years of employment or education, with any gaps explained
  • Two years of references
  • An Overseas Police Check if you have lived abroad for three months or more within the last five years

Ready to Make a Difference?

If you're passionate about supporting young people and believe that patience, understanding, and encouragement can help students reach their potential, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply today and start making a positive impact in schools across Midsomer Norton, Peasedown St. John, and Radstock.
