Job description
Overview At inspiring vet care, our people are at the heart of everything we do. As the UK’s number one vet care provider, we’re trusted with the care of over 2 million animals, delivering our purpose of healthier animals and happier owners. We are seeking an enthusiastic, team-oriented Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our team at Sunninghill Vets on a full-time basis. Established in 2006 by practice principal vet Johanna Headley, Sunninghill Veterinary Centre was created to provide exceptional veterinary care to small animals in Sunninghill, Ascot, and the surrounding Berkshire area. Since then, we’ve built a strong reputation for clinical excellence, compassionate care, and a genuinely personal approach. Our friendly and experienced team takes the time to do things properly — whether that’s a longer consult, a thorough discussion, or simply a reassuring cuddle. At the heart of the Sunninghill community, our friendly and experienced team is dedicated to building lasting relationships with pets and their owners, taking the time to provide thorough, tailored care in a calm and welcoming environment. We see a varied first-opinion caseload alongside more complex orthopaedic surgeries, supported by modern facilities including dental, ultrasound, and orthopaedic equipment. Our Sunninghill site features large kennels and two consultation rooms, while our Sunningdale branch offers consulting, dental, and x-ray facilities. With exciting plans to reopen Sunningdale, this is a fantastic opportunity to work across both sites within our growing group. Our commitment to high standards has also been recognised through a nomination for Practice of the Year at the IVC Leaders Forum. Responsibilities * Provide nursing care for hospitalised patients. * Monitor anaesthetics during surgical procedures. * Prepare animals for surgery, including clipping and aseptic preparation. * Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by veterinary surgeons. * Assist with diagnostic procedures such as radiography, blood sampling, and laboratory tests. * Assist veterinary surgeons during operations and maintain sterile surgical environments. * Prepare and maintain surgical equipment and instruments. * Observe and record patient vital signs and monitor recovery from anaesthesia. * Report any concerns regarding patient welfare to the veterinary surgeon. * Communicate with clients regarding patient progress and provide guidance on animal care, nutrition, and post-operative care. * Assist with nurse clinics (e.g., weight management, dental care, parasite control). * Maintain cleanliness and infection control within the practice; manage and restock clinical supplies; ensure accurate record keeping of treatments and patient notes. Qualifications and Requirements * Registration as a Veterinary Nurse with the RCVS. * Experience working in clinical practice, with growing confidence in medical and surgical nursing. * Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with clients and colleagues. * Good organisational skills and the ability to manage workload effectively. * A proactive approach to learning, reflection, and continuous improvement. Working Arrangements The role entails working 4/5 days per week between the hours of 8 am and 7 pm, Monday – Friday, with no weekends. Sunningdale will initially be working 9 am – 5 pm. How We’ll Support You * A varied and rewarding nursing role within a supportive primary care environment. * Clear career pathways with progression opportunities into Senior Nurse, Referral, or leadership roles as well as clinical supervisors, mentors and certificate holders. * Ongoing learning and development supported by experienced colleagues and practice teams. * A collaborative, values-led culture focused on care, community, and continuous improvement. What We Offer Our Team * 6.6 weeks annual leave plus your birthday off * Increasing holiday allowance based on length of service * Enhanced family-friendly policies, including maternity/paternity/adoption/shared parental and surrogacy pay * Private Medical Insurance * Employee wellbeing initiatives including Healthcare Cash Plan and Cycle to Work scheme * £550 CPD allowance plus 24hrs paid leave * Certificate support; RCVS and VDS fees covered * Pension scheme * Discounted veterinary care * Voluntary benefits: choice of benefits including Green Cars salary sacrifice scheme and discounts with participating retailers We’re committed to supporting our people through career development opportunities, wellbeing initiatives and access to world-class learning resources. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to take the next step in your career, inspiring vet care offers the support, opportunity and community to help you grow.
