Job description

A high-achieving Mixed Secondary School in Southampton is seeking an organised and enthusiastic Photography Early Career Teacher (ECT) to join their successful Art and Design department. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a vibrant and well-equipped visual arts environment where students are encouraged to develop photographic confidence visual imagination and technical camera skills across KS4 and KS5.

The successful candidate will inspire teaching and learning by delivering engaging high-quality practical lessons and ambitious creative projects. You will maintain a positive studio and darkroom environment manage camera equipment and editing software effectively and ensure that photography spaces remain safe inspiring and fully equipped for both digital and traditional film techniques.

Responsibilities will include planning and delivering curriculum content across digital photography lighting techniques film development and post-production software as well as preparing students for external examinations. You will also play a key role in curating exhibitions student showcases and departmental enrichment activities across the school.

The role requires someone who is practical highly organised and deeply enthusiastic about Photography and Visual Media. Strong attention to detail a passion for contemporary lens-based media and the ability to guide students through complex coursework portfolios are essential. The school is looking for a proactive educator who can contribute positively to a collaborative and ambitious department.

Photography Department The Photography department is a vibrant inspiring space where artistic vision flourishes and teaching nurtures exceptional technical skill. It is supported by strong facilities including dedicated Mac suites equipped with Adobe Creative Cloud professional studio lighting rigs backdrops a range of DSLR cameras and a fully functional traditional darkroom enabling students to experiment and produce exhibition-standard work.

Requirements * QTS / ECT status (or equivalent recognized teaching qualification)

  • Degree in Photography Fine Art (Lens-Based) or a related visual arts discipline

  • Strong practical camera skills studio lighting knowledge and digital editing proficiency (Lightroom/Photoshop)

  • Knowledge of Photography curricula and examination specifications

  • Creative and proactive approach to classroom management and exhibition curation
