Job description

This role will be mainly remote but require flexibility to travel to client sites, and our offices based in London, Sheffield, and Bristol.

Strong understanding of Master Data Management principles, including domain identification, golden record design, survivorship rules, matching and merging, reference data, data ownership, stewardship and data quality controls.

Ability to assess enterprise data domains and prioritise MDM use cases based on business value, risk, feasibility, data quality and implementation complexity.

Experience defining MDM operating models, including governance structures, stewardship roles, decision rights, escalation routes, data standards and ongoing service management.

Strong Microsoft Azure data platform knowledge, ideally including Azure Data Lake, Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL, Synapse, Databricks, integration services, Power BI and common enterprise integration patterns.

Hands-on knowledge of Microsoft Purview, including data discovery, scanning, catalogue design, glossary or business concept modelling, lineage, classification, sensitivity labelling, data estate health and governance workflows.

Ability to evaluate tooling options and produce balanced recommendations covering capability fit, architecture, security, cost, licensing, implementation effort, operational complexity and future scalability.

Experience assessing data quality across source systems and defining practical remediation approaches, including profiling, rule definition, issue management and ownership.

Strong understanding of metadata management, including business metadata, technical metadata, operational metadata, lineage, cataloguing, enterprise metadata models and integration with wider data governance.

Ability to map dependencies across technology, process, people, governance, security, data architecture, integration and reporting layers.

Experience creating pragmatic implementation roadmaps, including sequencing, phases, work packages, dependencies, risks, assumptions, costs and benefits.

Strong consulting skills, including workshop facilitation, senior stakeholder engagement, structured analysis, clear written communication and production of concise, high-quality client deliverables.

Ability to work in secure or regulated environments and understand the importance of information governance, data protection, access control and auditability.

Requirements

  • 5+ years’ experience designing, implementing and optimising Master Data Management solutions.
  • Strong experience delivering MDM solutions in Microsoft Azure environments.
  • Practical experience with Microsoft Purview, including data catalogue, lineage, classification, data governance and information protection capabilities.
  • Eligibility for UK security clearance.
  • Microsoft SC-400 certification, or demonstrable equivalent experience aligned to Microsoft Purview information protection, data loss prevention and information governance. The current Microsoft certification aligned to SC-400 is Microsoft Certified: Information Security Administrator Associate, which covers planning and implementing information security for sensitive data using Microsoft Purview and related services.
  • Consulting experience, including stakeholder engagement, discovery workshops, current-state assessment, option appraisal, roadmap development and production of client-facing deliverables.

Desirable

  • Experience working with UK public sector organisations or similarly complex, regulated environments.
  • Experience delivering MDM, data governance or metadata management work within central government, healthcare, housing, education, policing, defence or wider public services.
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric and its interaction with Purview, OneLake, Power BI semantic models and governed analytics environments.
  • Experience developing business cases or investment cases for data governance, MDM, metadata management or enterprise data platform initiatives.
  • Experience defining data governance models aligned to UK data protection, information assurance, records management or public sector security expectations.
  • Knowledge of data architecture patterns for Customer 360, Citizen 360, Supplier 360, Asset 360, Product 360 or other master-data-led analytical and operational use cases.
  • Experience with complementary MDM or metadata tooling beyond Microsoft Purview, such as Profisee, Informatica, Reltio, Semarchy, Collibra, Atlan or Alation.
  • Experience supporting implementation planning beyond strategy, including mobilisation, backlog definition, delivery governance, testing approach, adoption planning and early life support.
  • Experience working in consultancy or supplier-side delivery teams, with the ability to represent Methods credibly with senior client stakeholders.
