Job description

Some children need a little extra support to believe in themselves. Others need someone who understands that behaviour is communication, celebrates the smallest victories, and helps them discover just how capable they really are.

If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.

Protocol Education is working with a fantastic, nurturing primary school in BS15 that is searching for caring, enthusiastic Learning Support Assistants to join their team this September.

This isn't just another classroom role. It's an opportunity to become a trusted adult, a positive role model and a champion for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Every day will bring new challenges, new smiles and those unforgettable moments when a child who once struggled suddenly says, "I did it!"

What's the Role?

You'll support pupils across Key Stage 2, helping them feel safe, understood and ready to learn. Some children may need support with emotional regulation, others with communication, confidence or accessing learning in the classroom.

Working alongside experienced teachers, SENCOs and pastoral staff, you'll help create an environment where every child can succeed—both academically and emotionally.

No two days are ever the same, and that's exactly what makes this role so rewarding.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Supporting children with SEN and SEMH on a one-to-one basis and in small groups.
  • Helping pupils develop confidence, resilience and independence.
  • Encouraging positive behaviour using nurturing, child-centred approaches.
  • Supporting children with ASD, ADHD, speech and language needs, learning difficulties and emotional needs.
  • Delivering engaging intervention activities and adapting learning to suit individual pupils.
  • Celebrating every achievement—big or small.
  • Building positive relationships with pupils, families and school staff.
  • Helping create a calm, inclusive and supportive classroom where every child feels they belong.

About You

You don't need to have worked in a school before—we're looking for people with the right attitude and a genuine passion for supporting children.

You might have experience in:

  • Education or Teaching Assistant roles
  • Youth work
  • Residential care
  • Coaching or mentoring
  • Childcare
  • Support work
  • Psychology or education placements
  • Working with vulnerable children or young people

You'll also be:

  • Kind, patient and resilient.
  • Calm under pressure and able to think on your feet.
  • A brilliant listener and communicator.
  • Passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning.
  • Someone who celebrates progress, no matter how small.

Why Work with Protocol Education?

✨ Competitive pay (£14.30–£15.25 per hour, paid weekly via PAYE)

✨ Flexible work to fit around your life and commitments

✨ Long-term and permanent opportunities available from September

✨ Guaranteed work agreements for consistency and peace of mind

✨ A dedicated consultant who genuinely gets to know you

✨ Opportunities in welcoming mainstream and specialist schools across Bristol

✨ £250 refer-a-friend bonus

What We Need to Get You Started

  • Valid passport or proof of your right to work in the UK.
  • Two proofs of address (such as a driving licence, utility bill or council tax letter).
  • An up-to-date CV covering the last 10 years of work or education, with any gaps explained.
  • Two years of references, including education, childcare, voluntary or employment references where applicable.
  • An Overseas Police Check (OSPC) if you've lived overseas for three months or more within the last five years.

Ready to Make a Real Difference?

If you're looking for more than "just a job" and want to finish each day knowing you've helped a child feel happier, more confident and more successful, this could be the perfect opportunity.

Join a school where kindness matters, every small win is celebrated, and your support can change the course of a child's education.
