Band 5 Biomedical Scientist - Histology Team in Carlisle, with a bustling team atmosphere, offers an exciting locum opportunity for a Band 5 Biomedical Scientist in histology at an hourly rate of £21. This ongoing, full-time role invites applicants to dive into an energising environment that specialises in vital tissue transfer dissection, embedding, microtomy, and special stains.

With an approximate 21,000 histology cases received each year, including non-gynaecological cytology and post-mortem histology cases, you're in for a dynamic work environment.

What you will do:
  • Efficiently process patient samples using manual, semi-automated, and fully automated techniques and instrumentation.
  • Undertake troubleshooting and maintenance on equipment within the section.
  • Participate actively in the development of new methodologies and instrument evaluations.
  • Assess sample suitability and liaise with medical staff as required.
  • Ensure the analytical process is satisfactorily completed and results are validated within agreed turnaround times.
  • Monitor analysis performance, check internal quality control samples, and take corrective action if necessary.
  • Refer unusual events to a more experienced Biomedical Scientist for advice or action.
  • Prioritise investigations based on clinical need and meet agreed turnaround times for urgent requests.
  • Adhere to appropriate codes of conduct and infection prevention procedures.
  • Safeguard children and vulnerable adults, completing necessary training.
  • Prioritise the person receiving care first and challenge poor practice immediately.
