Role Overview

\n

This is a key leadership role within the business, responsible for managing and supporting transport operations across all departments.

\n

The successful candidate will ensure:

\n

\n
• Safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of goods
\n
• Strong operational performance against KPIs
\n
• Cost-effective use of fleet and driver resources
\n
• High standards of health & safety
\n

\n

You will work cross-functionally, building strong relationships across the organisation to support overall business success.

Key Responsibilities

\n

Operational Management

\n

\n
• Oversee day-to-day transport operations across the business
\n
• Plan for short- and long-term operational requirements
\n
• Ensure operational continuity across people and assets
\n
• Deliver efficient transport planning aligned to budget and KPIs
\n

\n

Performance & Improvement

\n

\n
• Monitor performance through data analysis and KPI reporting
\n
• Identify and implement continuous improvements
\n
• Improve fuel efficiency and overall operational cost performance
\n
• Prepare and present KPI reports to senior management
\n

\n

Resource & Fleet Management

\n

\n
• Ensure effective utilisation of drivers and vehicles
\n
• Collaborate with maintenance teams to ensure fleet is fully serviced and compliant
\n
• Manage both planned and reactive maintenance requirements
\n

\n

Compliance & Safety

\n

\n
• Ensure full compliance with: \n
  \n
  • Tachograph regulations
  \n
  • Working Time Directive (WTD)
  \n
  • UK & EU transport legislation
  \n
\n
• Work closely with Health & Safety teams to uphold best practice
\n
• Promote a culture of safe and compliant working
\n

\n

Commercial & Customer Focus

\n

\n
• Ensure customer requirements are delivered in a timely, controlled and measurable manner
\n
• Identify and develop opportunities for new business
\n
• Support the delivery of high service standards and customer satisfaction
\n

\n

Leadership & People Management

\n

\n
• Lead, motivate and develop operational teams
\n
• Conduct performance reviews and identify training needs
\n
• Support recruitment, training and retention of drivers
\n
• Build a strong team culture focused on continuous improvement and delivery
\n

\n

✅ Key Experience & Qualifications

\n

\n
• Proven experience in transport / logistics operations management
\n
• Strong background in: \n
  \n
  • Container haulage and/or general haulage
  \n
\n
• Experience managing operational performance and financial outcomes
\n
• Strong working knowledge of: \n
  \n
  • Driver Hours regulations
  \n
  • Working Time Directive (WTD)
  \n
  • UK transport legislation
  \n
\n
• Demonstrated leadership experience managing teams
\n
• Transport Manager CPC (desirable, not essential)
\n
• Strong IT literacy across transport systems
\n
