Location: NE61, Northumberland
Job Type: Full-time / Part-time

GSL Education is looking for a caring, enthusiastic and reliable Learning Support Assistant to work within a supportive school setting in the NE61 area of Northumberland.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children and young people with a variety of Special Educational Needs (SEN) and helping them to achieve their full potential.

The Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff to provide individual and small-group support to pupils with a range of additional needs. These may include:

  • Autism (ASC)
  • ADHD
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
  • Moderate and Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD)
  • Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
  • Sensory and/or physical needs
  • Challenging behaviour and emotional regulation needs

Your role will focus on helping pupils access learning, develop their confidence and independence, and feel safe and supported within the school environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support.
  • Support pupils with their academic, social and emotional development.
  • Adapt your approach to meet individual SEN needs.
  • Assist teachers with classroom activities and learning resources.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and engagement.
  • Support pupils with communication and emotional regulation.
  • Help create an inclusive, positive and safe learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and other professionals.

  • Are flexible and willing to adapt to the individual needs of pupils.
  • Have a genuine passion for making a difference in education.

Experience within a school or SEN environment is desirable; however, candidates with transferable experience from care, youth work, support work, sports coaching or similar backgrounds are also encouraged to apply.
