Position: Clinical Psychologist – Neurodevelopmental Assessments

Location: Newcastle, Tyne and Wear

Contract Type: Permanent (Full-Time and Part-Time Available)

Working Pattern: Clinic-Based / Hybrid (Minimum 1-2 days in office)

Salary: £49,000 - £79,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

Job Opportunity: Clinical Psychologist – Neurodevelopmental Assessments

RGH-Global are excited to present an excellent opportunity to join an award-winning, NHS approved independent psychology and neurodevelopmental practice. This dynamic team delivers high-quality, evidence-based diagnostic assessments for children and young people, collaborating closely with NHS-funded referrals and private pathways to provide exceptional care.

Role Overview

We are seeking Clinical Psychologists for full-time and part-time roles within our client's Neurodevelopmental Assessment Team based in Newcastle. This is an exciting and valuable clinic-based/hybrid position (minimum 1-2 days in office) for suitably qualified clinicians working with children and young people referred for autism and/or ADHD assessments via NHS Patient Choice and GP pathways.

You will join a passionate and supportive multidisciplinary team dedicated to making a meaningful difference in the lives of children, young people and their families. Working with cutting-edge digital workflows and smart report-writing tools, you'll be equipped to focus on what matters most: delivering exceptional care.

The role requires conducting comprehensive specialist assessments including diagnostic assessments of individuals with suspected autism and/or ADHD using established diagnostic tools. You will conduct developmental history interviews, participate in MDT diagnostic discussions, and deliver clear, compassionate feedback to families. Responsibilities include producing accurate clinical reports with diagnostic formulations, meeting service KPIs, and depending on experience, providing clinical supervision to junior team members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting face-to-face structured observations as part of the neurodevelopmental assessment process
  • Conducting remote developmental history interviews with parents and carers via Zoom
  • Participating collaboratively in peer MDT diagnostic discussions, supported by senior clinicians where needed
  • Delivering clear, compassionate feedback to families
  • Producing accurate clinical reports, including diagnostic formulations, with the help of smart tools
  • Writing assessment reports in a timely and professional manner with appropriate recommendations and interventions
  • Working efficiently to meet service Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Delivering clinical supervision to junior staff members (where applicable)
  • Attending the Newcastle clinic base for in-person assessments (minimum 1-2 days per week)

Essential Requirements

  • HCPC registered Practitioner Psychologist (Clinical Psychologist, Counselling Psychologist, or Educational Psychologist) with minimum 1 year professional registration
  • Minimum of 1 year experience conducting diagnostic neurodevelopmental/specialist developmental assessments with children and young people OR adults
  • Experience with assessment tools for autism and/or ADHD
  • Must have worked within a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) conducting assessments - NOT worked alone
  • Willing to conduct assessments for BOTH autism AND ADHD
  • Willing to be trained in either area if lacking experience in one
  • In-depth knowledge of DSM-5 diagnostic criteria for autism and ADHD
  • Strong understanding of differential diagnosis in neurodevelopmental presentations
  • Experience working with children and young people with neurodevelopmental disorders or mental health difficulties in a clinical setting
  • Effective time management and caseload organisation skills, with the ability to manage competing demands and meet clinical deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and participate in collaborative diagnostic discussions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills used to produce high-quality clinical reports
  • Well-developed communication skills with children, young people, and their families, ensuring compassionate, clear, and professional interactions throughout the assessment process
  • Must be eligible to work in the UK

Highly Desirable

  • Trained and experienced in the use of ADOS-2 and ADI-R
  • Clinical supervision experience
  • Additional qualifications in relevant areas of autism and/or ADHD
  • Experience conducting assessments of mental health conditions

Our Ways of Working

  • Digital workflows and smart report-writing reduce admin time and enhance clinical impact
  • A custom-built electronic health record system, developed in-house using market leading research
  • Continuously enhancing internal systems, based on employee feedback to improve efficiency
  • Ongoing training and onboarding to ensure confidence in all tech and systems
  • In-house IT and operational support, so you're never left troubleshooting alone

Benefits

  • A values-led culture where clinical excellence, compassion, and staff wellbeing come first
  • Continued professional development, clinical supervision, and reflective practice to support the ongoing development of your clinical skills
  • Competitive salary based on experience (£49,000 - £79,000 per annum), with annual salary reviews and pension contributions
  • Generous leave entitlement, including 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays - and a day off for your birthday
  • Private healthcare to support your physical and mental health
  • A company laptop and on-call IT support to enable seamless working
  • Opportunities to contribute beyond clinical work through training and research initiatives
  • Company events
  • Access to a collaborative, multidisciplinary team passionate about improving outcomes for neurodivergent individuals and their families

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact for families through high-quality neurodevelopmental assessments in a supportive, professional environment. Join an award-winning team dedicated to transforming neurodevelopmental care.
