Overview
We are looking to recruit an Underwriter or Senior Underwriter to join our Marine Logistics team, based in our London office. Our Marine Division is a fast-paced, collaborative group of dynamic professionals who are all driven to succeed. You will be responsible for the review and pricing of Logistics business. The role requires deep sector knowledge, strong analytical judgement and the ability to build and maintain high-value broker and client relationships, while contributing to strategic portfolio growth and profitability. Reporting directly to the Managing Director of the team, you will work with experienced Underwriters and together provide outstanding service to our clients within the Marine sector. How you'll make an impact Assess, price and underwrite complex Logistics risks in accordance with company guidelines and market conditions. Analyse technical documentation, risk particulars, loss records, surveys and financial information to make informed underwriting decisions. Structure policy terms, conditions and endorsements tailored to client needs and risk appetite. Maintain underwriting discipline and ensure compliance with internal controls, regulatory standards and delegated authority levels. Manage a renewable book of business, ensuring profitability and alignment with strategic objectives. Monitor performance metrics, identify loss trends and propose corrective actions to improve results. Contribute to the development of underwriting strategy, pricing models and product enhancements. Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, capacity providers and industry partners. Represent the company at market meetings, broker visits and industry events. Identify new opportunities and support sustainable growth initiatives within the marine segment. Serve as a subject matter expert for internal teams and stakeholders. Provide mentorship, technical guidance and training to junior underwriters and support staff. Lead complex account negotiations and support large or strategic placements. Work closely with the claims team and support staff to ensure holistic risk understanding. Participate in internal underwriting committees, audits and portfolio reviews. About You Underwriting experience within marine insurance (preferably liability). Strong understanding of maritime operations, vessel types, supply chain risks and global marine markets. Proven track record of profitable underwriting. Excellent analytical, problem solving, negotiation and decision-making skills. Established broker relationship management. High attention to detail and compliance discipline.
