Job description

Qualified MDU Engineer – Fibre Networking Solutions

Are you ready to be part of a rapidly expanding Fibre Networking company with exciting growth plans? Following our success at the UK Fibre Awards 2024, where we were proud to be named Best Vendor/Supplier of the Year, we’re growing fast — and we want you to be part of the journey.

We're currently looking to fill a number of MDU Engineer roles across Gloucestershire.

An MDU Fibre Engineer installs, splices, and tests fibre optic infrastructure within Multi-Dwelling Units (MDUs), delivering high-quality internal and external fibre installations that meet client specifications and regulatory standards. The role involves providing end-to-end fibre connectivity from external network access points through risers and communal areas to individual properties. Responsibilities include fibre splicing and testing, structured cabling installation, PoE device configuration, and the deployment of specialist containment systems such as Easy-Bend and InvisiLight solutions, while ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to agreed quality standards.

Why Join Us?

This is a fantastic opportunity for qualified and experienced MDU Engineer to join a dynamic, forward-thinking team. You’ll be working closely with our Fibre Engineer, Civils and Cabling teams, supported by our in-house traffic management operatives — all working together to deliver industry-leading fibre infrastructure.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Proven experience in civil works within the telecoms or utilities sectors.
  • Mandatory qualifications to meet our contractual and safety requirements.
  • A commitment to high standards of work and health & safety.
  • A collaborative, proactive approach to team projects.
  • A driving license is essential due to the nature of this role.
  • Flexibility to work overtime, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
  • Overtime is paid at an additional rate.

MDU Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Install internal and external fibre optic cabling within Multi-Dwelling Units (MDUs), including risers, corridors, and individual apartments.
  • Carry out fibre splicing, OTDR testing, and power meter testing to verify network performance and link integrity.
  • Install and tension catenary wire systems to support external and open-span fibre routes.
  • Install, terminate, and maintain Easy-Bend and InvisiLight fibre solutions in residential and commercial environments.
  • Complete PoE (Power over Ethernet) cabling and device installations, including switches, CCTV cameras, and wireless access points.
  • Install containment systems such as trunking, conduit, basket tray, and fibre management solutions in line with building standards and specifications.
  • Read and interpret network schematics, floor plans, and installation drawings to ensure accurate deployment.
  • Conduct pre-installation site surveys and produce accurate as-built documentation upon completion of works.
  • Liaise professionally with building management, residents, clients, and supervisors to coordinate site access and installation activities.
  • Adhere to company RAMS, NRSWA, and Health & Safety regulations, reporting hazards, incidents, or non-conformances immediately.
  • Complete daily work reports, test records, and photographic evidence to maintain quality assurance and project compliance.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • NRSWA Full Street Works U1-9.
  • SA002.
  • SA006.
  • SA007.
  • SA020.
  • K8.
  • N29.
  • First Aid at Work.
  • MT003.

The role is available on an agreed day rate basis or on a price-work basis. Price work can be paid, including or excluding the kit. Prices to be agreed at the interview.

In return, we offer a fully maintained company van and fuel card, training, teambuilding days out, and a competitive rate of pay.
