Systems Integration and Test Engineer

Engineering

Newcastle

About the Role

Be part of a team delivering the next generation of secure military communications satellites for the UK Ministry of Defence. This work provides resilient, high performance connectivity for the UK, its allies and Defence personnel worldwide, playing a critical role in protecting national security as space becomes more contested and demand for secure data continues to grow.

Joining Lockheed Martin also means helping to shape significant investment in the North East space sector, with more than £100 million proposed to support high skill jobs, advanced manufacturing and long term economic growth. Opportunities include potential satellite manufacturing in County Durham and collaboration with NESST – the North East Space Skills and Technology Centre at Northumbria University – helping to build a strong pipeline of talent, learning and innovation.

This is your chance to work on mission critical technology, develop cutting-edge skills and build a meaningful career, while delivering lasting impact for the region and the nation.

The Role:

The Systems Integration & Test Engineer plays a key role in delivering complex, high-performance engineering systems across their full lifecycle. This is an opportunity to work on technically challenging and high-impact programmes, helping to transform customer and system requirements into fully integrated, tested, and operational solutions.

The role offers broad exposure across the systems engineering lifecycle—from concept and design through to testing, integration, deployment, and operational support—working as part of a collaborative engineering team focused on delivering robust, reliable, and innovative solutions within technical, schedule, and cost constraints.

This position is well suited to an experienced engineer looking to take ownership of complex engineering activities, contribute to technical decision-making, and play a key role in delivering critical system outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support systems integration, verification, and validation activities across complex engineering systems
  • Translate customer and system requirements into clear, structured, and testable engineering solutions
  • Conduct system-level analysis including functional analysis, trade studies, and requirements allocation
  • Define and manage interfaces between hardware and software components
  • Support cost, risk, supportability, and effectiveness analysis across the system lifecycle
  • Contribute to system test planning, execution, and evaluation activities
  • Ensure systems are delivered in line with technical, schedule, and cost requirements
  • Work across all phases of the lifecycle including concept, design, fabrication, testing, integration, and operational support.

Required skills, qualifications and experience

  • Proven experience in systems integration, testing, or a related systems engineering discipline
  • Ability to solve complex technical problems independently, using sound judgement and structured thinking
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering principles and their application across the full engineering lifecycle
  • Experience contributing to or leading engineering activities or projects with meaningful technical impact
  • Confident stakeholder engagement skills, including interaction with senior engineers and technical specialists
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant industry standards, tools, and engineering practices within the discipline.
