Job description
The Pensions Capital Vice President is a key member of the Pensions Capital Management Centre of Excellence within the Capital and Leverage Management team, responsible for analysing and managing the capital implications of Barclays Group's pension obligations across both UK and international regulated entities. The role supports the effective capitalisation of the Group by assessing financial and actuarial risks associated with defined benefit pension schemes, contributing to the development of financial assumptions, and performing advanced risk modelling including stress testing and VaR calculations for ICAAP. The individual will play an active role in supporting trustee consultations, triennial valuations of the UK Retirement Fund, and ongoing engagement with internal and external stakeholders such as actuaries, investment managers, and auditors. In addition, the VP will help drive pensions-related projects and initiatives, while maintaining robust governance across pension risk models, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, controls, and internal policies.

To be successful as a Pensions Capital VP, you should have the following experience:
  • Experience in treasury, finance, markets/trading, or market risk management or pensions, including exposure to actuarial concepts
  • Understanding of capital frameworks, with exposure to structuring concepts
  • Ability to analyse complex problems, learn new concepts, and communicate with a range of stakeholders
  • University degree or equivalent practical experience

Some other highly valued skills may include:
  • Knowledge of market risk methodologies, including VaR, stress testing, and sensitivity analysis, and familiarity with fixed income and other asset classes
  • Understanding of retail and wholesale banking business models and associated capital implications
  • Experience assessing and managing capital impacts across multiple legal entities and at a Group level
  • Progress toward or completion of a CFA, FRM, accounting, or actuarial qualification

This role is located in our London office.

Purpose of the role

To optimise the bank's capital structure to support its growth objectives, manage risk exposure, and comply with regulatory requirements by analysis of bank's capital position, development of capital allocation strategies, and ensuring that the bank maintains adequate capital levels under various economic scenarios.

Accountabilities
  • Development and implementation of strategies to manage the bank's capital position, including setting of capital targets, development of capital plans, and monitoring of capital adequacy.
  • Optimisation of the bank's capital structure to support the bank's growth and profitability objectives, including management of the bank's exposure to regulatory capital requirements.
  • Allocation of capital to business units and projects based on risk-adjusted returns and other financial metrics.
  • Preparation and provision of regular reports on the bank's capital position, capital allocation decisions, and stress testing results to senior colleagues, risk committees, and regulatory authorities, and effective communication of capital management strategies and risk considerations to relevant stakeholders.
