Job description
The Opportunity Hereford is a city that balances a deep agricultural heritage with a burgeoning reputation for innovation in cyber security and sustainable engineering. We are seeking an intellectually curious and inspiring Science Teacher to join an Ofsted-rated 'Outstanding' secondary school . In this role, you will help students unlock the mysteries of the natural world, utilising the unique local landscape—from the River Wye’s ecosystem to Hereford’s specialized technology sectors—to bring biology, chemistry, and physics to life. The Department & Scientific Culture You will join a high-performing Science faculty where practical, enquiry-based learning is at the heart of the curriculum. The school features modern, well-equipped laboratories and specialised preparation rooms, supported by an expert team of technicians. As an "Outstanding" setting, we prioritise a "big ideas" approach—connecting core concepts like cellular biology, atomic structure, and energy conservation to real-world global challenges. We maintain active links with local industries and environmental groups, providing students with unique insights into the future of scientific and ecological careers. Core Responsibilities Exemplary Instruction: Delivering high-challenge Science lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE Triple and Combined Science), with opportunities for A-Level instruction in your specialist discipline. Practical Leadership: Designing and executing rigorous laboratory experiments that foster a deep understanding of the scientific method and promote analytical thinking. Conceptual Clarity: Demystifying complex theories—from the mechanics of the human heart to the intricacies of chemical bonding and the laws of thermodynamics. Data-Driven Success: Utilising the school’s sophisticated assessment framework to identify and bridge learning gaps, ensuring all students exceed their academic targets. STEM Advocacy: Leading extra-curricular initiatives, such as eco-clubs or engineering challenges, that inspire students to pursue science beyond the classroom. The Successful Candidate We are looking for a subject specialist who is passionate about cultivating the next generation of scientists and thinkers. Requirements include: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a strong honours degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or a related Science discipline. Proven Track Record: Evidence of delivering exceptional learning outcomes at GCSE, with a deep understanding of AQA or Edexcel assessment objectives. Instructional Versatility: The ability to teach all three sciences at KS3 while maintaining high-level expertise in your chosen specialism at KS4 and KS5. Reflective Practice: A professional committed to continuous growth, eager to participate in collaborative planning and peer-led professional development. Why Join Us? The chance to work in an "Outstanding" environment where student behaviour is exemplary and Science is a flagship subject of the school. Unrivalled professional development pathways, including opportunities for middle leadership and specialised training in advanced pedagogical techniques. The opportunity to work in Hereford—a historic city offering a high quality of life, stunning rural surroundings, and a friendly, close-knit community. A prestigious professional community that values innovation, intellectual rigour, and the holistic development of every student.
